May 11, 201115 yr Nice! thanks! I just picked one up at the local store. They said it was not on sale, i pulled up the website on my iPhone and they gave me that price. I had to pay tax, but even if i mail ordered it, i would have had to anyways. I was going to order the Costco unit today but this is bigger and cheaper. Altho i do love the Costco "forever warranty". Edit. I like how office maxes "recommended accessories" are a flashlight and batteries. i lol'd
May 12, 201115 yr Thanks again. So far this BX1300G is pretty nice... I got apcupsd running on unRAID along with apcupsd on my Win2008r2 16x2TB RAID array as a slave to the unraid. My unraid in its current config is 7% load and has 55+ min run time while idol with all drives spun up. The 2k8 box brings the load up to 25% and 22 min of run time. I also have a trendnet Green switch on there for inter-server communication. That's without monitors or anything else unneeded. that's better then the 3min i got on my old UPS. I'm thinking about maybe my cable modem so i can get an email the powers out. I doubt i will do that. if its out, its out. i cant do anything. I am going pick up a second one at this price. put my other two 2008r2 raid servers on one.
May 12, 201115 yr Hey guys, can anyone tell me their experience of using such UPS's in terms of noise and power consumption of the UPS itself? I mean, how much extra electricity does running a UPS use having it simply running on standby 24/7 ? If you turn your devices that the UPS protects off (i.e. the server) does it continue to run regardless if it has mains power to it? Or can you configure it so if you shut your server down say when you go away for the weekend the UPS turns off as well? What about noise...do UPS's generate a fair amount of extra heat and noise themselves?
May 12, 201115 yr I have only had my 1300 for 24 hours. It does have a noisy fan in it. so far i only got it to kick in when i tried my power fail test. it kicked in while the battery was recharging then shut off when done. It does have a "green feature" you can enable (off by default). There is a "master outlet". when it senses the master pc is "off" it will power down 4 of the other outlets (1 UPS and 3 Surge only) turning off monitors, printers, usb drives, switches, etc you have also plugged into the ups. This might be nice if you have a workstation plugged into the master. you can still keep using other devices plugged into the other outlets. I have not read up on it yet since I have 2 servers and a switch plugged in and nothing else. not a feature i would need. I have not measured the additional wall usage. (but it claims it is saving money. yeah sure.. ok.) To me, the cost or a few extra watts (if even that much?) of keeping my hardware and data protected from lightning, brownouts, Spikes, surges, blackouts, etc. is worth it to me. I would really hate to have a $1500+ 24 drive server fry and loose the hardware and data.
May 12, 201115 yr My APC BackUPS 800 adds about 8 watts to the mains power consumption once the battery is fully charged. It is silent except while powering the server etc from the batteries. It stays pretty cool also but warms up when running from batteries or while charging the batteries back up again.
May 12, 201115 yr Author Great news, hopefully mine will arrive early next week. LOL, I ordered mine yesterday and it arrived today with my server case. Same thing happened with my NewEgg order, orders stuff on the weekend and then Monday and both came on tuesday.

June 11, 201115 yr I want my things in 1 to 3 days. Amazon Prime spoils you. I know what you mean - in UK most items will/can be delivered within 24 hours. In Philippines everything works much more slowly. I've had items from UK reach Manila within 48 hours - it then can take another two weeks to reach me!
June 13, 201115 yr I have a 15 drive system and use this UPS. Gives plenty of time to power off the machine in a safe manner. It was cheap too and has 5 battery backup outlets. I love the small size of the UPS and its good specs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842101311&cm_re=be750g-_-42-101-311-_-Product
