Even distribution of data

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Is there a plugin, docker app or setting that will re-distribute data evenly and automatically over the disks after you add a new HDD to the array? Some of my disks are at the end of the line while others have some space left.

Thanks

As far as I am concerned, this should only be an issue for those with OCD behavior.   Moving data around within the array is an operation that has a definite risk element associated with it.  You are more likely to have problems and possible data loss by 'moving' things around than just leaving them stay right where they are!

First, look at these two settings under    Settings  >>>  Disk Settings   >>  Disk Settings

Make sure that these percentage settings make sense based on the capacity of the actual disks that you are using.   (5% of a 16TB drive is a lot more Megabytes than 5% of a 1TB drive!)  Also observe that this is the default setting  and that you can change the percentage for each disk under properties.  See here for example:

On more thing, if you are  using split levels (You should really know why you need to use this feature if you are using them!!!!!), make sure you really understand how they work.  You can start here:
