July 25, 20223 yr I just stumbled upon this this Silverstone "ECS07 - 5-Port SATA Gen3 6Gbps Non-RAID M.2 PCIe storage expansion card". I just wanted to mention it because it seems like a very interesting alternative. If a Mobo has 2 M.2 slots one could easily add 10 SATA ports. If they work as advertised, I would certainly prefer them to HBAs. One big caveat is that the price has not been released yet so I dont know if they cost 50 or 500 euros....

Can't be two jmb585 without a PCIe switch (or a very bizarrely configured [chipset] M.2 slot with "self-bifurcation"). More likely ONE jmb585; and one jmb575 port multiplier. Cute, still ... The model name was IO-M2F5875-8I http://www.iocrest.com/index.php?id=2335 Also Orico have 6 port product .... it look like Asmedia solution.
