Millions of Sync errors corrected

Featured Replies

The OS USB stick went bad and took out disk 22.

When I try to re-build disk 22 it eventually fails and starts a read-check.

Read check is running and counter of sync errors corrected is in the millions and going up.

Is my parity drive bad and I will lose whatever I had on disk 22?  Any advice is more than welcomed :)

We don't recommend USB for array or pool devices, same for SATA port multiplier which you are also using and also showing issues:

Reboot and post new diags after array start.

Why does screenshot say read-check was correcting sync errors?

It should say read errors.

Emulated disk22 mounted.

No confidence in another rebuild attempt with current hardware

We don't recommend USB for array or pool devices, same for SATA port multiplier

What hardware is recommended? (there's 11 drives in those devices) This has been running fine for 6+ months

Should I try to re-build the parity, at this point I don't need the data from disk 22.

You can try, but first

Running the read-check for now:

Try rebuilding disk22 again, server load will be the same as just resyncing parity, though if you no longer want that disk (and its data) in the array then might as well rebuild parity without it.

If I reboot in safe mode does it make the rebuild process run faster?  Just wondering, thanks!

Should be the same, just make sure nothing is using the array, like dockers, etc.

No USB/SATA port multipliers would most likely make it go much faster:

I don't have enough space in my case to pack in another 11 hdd's on top of the 13 already in the case.

That is why I'm using usb enclosures. Is there some case or device I can load everything up in and cut the USB crap out?

Thank you again!

You have a link or picture?

Thanks!

Thank you! Is there a recommended SAS controller for unRAID.

Any of the 8 to 24 port LSI SAS, if you get one with a "e" designation it will have the appropriate ports out the backplate instead of needing an adapter. As in 9207-8e instead of 9207-8i.

I got this hardware to fix my current setup: (with a LSI SAS9200-8E controller)

Please let me know if there is anything wrong with this planned setup.   Thanks again for your help!
