June 21, 20233 yr I have two VM's, Debian and Win10. Neither can ping any ip address other than the unraid ip. Pinging the router or any external address fails. Here is my network config:
June 21, 20233 yr Author I resolved this issue by changing my network model for my VM's from 'virtio-net' to 'virtio' Does anyone know why virtio-net does not appear to work anymore? Edited July 5, 20233 yr by Celsian This did not resolve the issue for others and stops working after an unRAID restart.
July 5, 20233 yr Author Solution Turns out the problem was actually with my network settings, when I restarted my unRAID server, the network connections stopped working again for both VM's. To resolve it I discovered that under network settings I had to enable bonding for eth0. I enabled bonding for the NIC, set the mode to backup and only included eth0 in the bond. After starting the VM's again, their network connections started working and the connections continued working after an unRAID restart. Edited July 5, 20233 yr by Celsian
July 13, 20232 yr Curious as to how you figured that out. Was it documented somewhere? Seems very counter intuitive. Anyway, I had the same issue when I upgraded from 6.11.5 to 6.12.2 and was super-frustrated until I found you post. Many thanks.
July 16, 20232 yr Well I had the same issue, thanks Celsian, Have to agree with Meep tho, very counter intuitive, been bugging me since uprgraded to 6.12.2. Weirdly it didn't get resolved when I tried to downgrade!
July 18, 20232 yr Hi, I think I am having the same problem, but not certain as I have only tried setting up a VM this weekend, after I had already updated to 6.12. So I've not yet been able to get it running at all, I checked my network settings and bonding appears to be on already. Do these settings look correct for what you guys used to get it working again? Thanks Charlie Edited July 18, 20232 yr by Charlie W
September 18, 20232 yr Had the same situation. Really appreciate you took the time to come back and describe how to solve it. Also, crear the cache or use private mode if vnc is still not working after this change.
November 8, 20232 yr Just ran into this issue myself, the above fix unfortunately did not apply. I already had bonding setup. I was able to get it working by swapping my VM over to virt0 for now. But that means it no longer has direct visibility of my network. For now this works for me, I'll have to plug more at it later, but I'm thinking it might just be an issue with this version of unRAID.

Thanks Charlie Hey mate, did you get it working eventually? In the exact same spot now; unsure if I should just toss the VM if there’s no simple way to get it working.
May 9, 20242 yr Hi Zazer, I did not find a solution, and no one replied to either this or another post I made with a fix. To be honest I had forgotten all about it until your reply reminded me to have a look again, so I fired up the VM today and for whatever reason it now works. I have absolutely no idea why, I have not changed the configuration of anything, so I'm guessing an update to something fixed it (I haven't updated Unraid OS). Sorry I know that's obviously no help to you. Cheers Charlie
May 12, 20242 yr I am having the exact same issue, both bonding and bridging are set to yes. maybe I should try and ever to an older version of Unraid? anyone got any solutions? Edited May 13, 20242 yr by robertjohnson2015
May 13, 20242 yr well rolled to 6.12.09 and it did nothing, I even put another post here Edited May 13, 20242 yr by robertjohnson2015
June 19, 20242 yr I just tried this and it seems to have worked for me - I already had 5 NICs bridged/bonded to I stopped the array, took 1 NIC out and did as above and assigned it to the VM and low and behold it worked!
