Plex Media Server

not to be too blunt, and I swear I searched, but WTF does softlinks do?  I am running without it right now because that is default.  Why would I turn it on? or why would I not want to turn it on?

when your Library is located  on a hidden folder, PMS can run into a memory Problem (with large Libraries) and crash.

if you use soft links you can avoid that (or slow it down).

@kingfetty

can you post the output of:

egrep -i plex /var/log/syslog

Just a little update

TV/The Simpsons/Season 1

TV/The Simpsons/Season 2

Both of these existed, I setup plex and got it to scan them, both showed up in the library

TV/The Simpsons/Season 3

Added this one and coppied the files over, Plex will not detect them

Have tried:

Force rescan

deep rescan

adding the directory specifically to the section

nothing so far can get it to detect new files.

The media scanner log shows nothing since the initial scan

permissions are looking good.

but can you rename this "s03.e01" to "S03E01".

and rescan your library again.

No change

I'm running a tail on the media scanner log and nothing there either

the tail stuck the most of the time.

do a "tail -f" again.

Last entry on the log is from an hour ago...

I wonder if it has something to do with the cache drive... I've just invoked the mover to move the files off the cache to see if it makes a difference.4

Hidden folder ... why would I have a hidden folder?  Or do you mean a hidden share?

before 5beta... you have to use hidden folders (dot folder e.g. ".plex") to prevent the mover to move the folder to your data disks.

hmmm, weird.

maybe the scanner is hanging. I don't know.

try it with a restart of plex

/etc/rc.d/rc.plex restart

The new files showed up in the library shortly after the mover finished moving the files off the cached drive and onto the disks.  Not sure why this would matter but it did.

  • Author

did you "give" plex the user shares or your disks?

The User share

then PMS should recognize the media on the cache too, it works at least for me.

yeah, I agree. what unRAID version are you running, perhaps is a bug.  I'm running b14

  • Author

me too

Maybe I missed this, but exactly what paths are you adding within PMS for your media?  I suspect you may be listing the disk shares instead of the user shares (which wouldn't pick up anything on your cache drive)?

Edit: yep, I missed it.  Only a few posts above.  Disregard.

/mnt/user/TV

/mnt/user/Movies

/mnt/user/Pictures

/mnt/user/Videos

/mnt/user/Music

Well I'm at a loss for how to troubleshoot.  Sounds like everything is set up as it should be.

If you end up adding something to your shares again, would you please check to see if it appropriately shows up (or doesn't) in the 3 following areas?

For instance, if you add a new TV show, check to make sure it shows up under

/mnt/cache/TV

/mnt/user/TV

And doesn't show up under whatever disk share(s) is (are) associated with the TV share, like...

/mnt/disk2/TV

If this all comes out as it should, shares are working properly and PMS should be picking up newly added media and I have no clue what's going on.

hmmm ok but I DO have a hidden folder on my cache drive.  it was put there by the default plugin. ".data" to be exact.
