March 5, 201214 yr Haven't had a problem since two releases back... Had it running smooth for several days without a hitch. Where do you keep your library? You use symlinks?
March 5, 201214 yr I never got a reply here when i asked about others having subtitle related crashing..but it seems the Plex people did notice: Add a universal font for rendering subtitles with on Windows and Linux. This fixes streaming from Linux not working when subtitles were enabled. Yaaay !!!
March 5, 201214 yr Author I can confirm that subtitles are working with the new release (on my iPad/iPhone)
March 5, 201214 yr Me too..works fine now..apparently there was never a font available on the linux release :|I guess plex looks for a default true type font(?), but in case of unraid, none were found.
March 5, 201214 yr Haven't had a problem since two releases back... Had it running smooth for several days without a hitch. Where do you keep your library? You use symlinks? No symlinks. Here is how I currently have it setup: Install: /mnt/cache/Apps/plex/Server Library: /mnt/cache/Apps/plex Temp: /mnt/cache/cachetmp/plex user: unraid-plex soft links?: no Apps and cachetmp are both Cache Only shares.
March 5, 201214 yr What clients are you streaming to? That may have something to do with it. I stream primarily to a mac mini but also to iPhones, iPads, Google TV (Logitech), and Apple TV. The only problems I've had are with the Google TV and Apple TV - both seem to buffer every 10 minutes sometimes and I haven't been able to find out why but the others play without a hitch.
March 5, 201214 yr My path setups are (were) very similar to dirrtyjoe's. I've since moved PMS to Windows 7 on a ESXi VM, but when it was running on unRAID it was solid.
March 6, 201214 yr Hi all. I was previously using the other plugin and haven't updated in a while - I saw the newest version of plex PMS is already here and took the plunge today. I have run the installer and followed the instructions on page 1 about moving everything into an Application Support folder - fought with the GUI in the Plex settings page to change the folder and finally just opened up the config file and did it there. I think everything is fine but I can't get to the PMS @ myip:32400/manage unRaid Log file says this: Mar 5 20:12:57 tower plex-rc.plex: starting PMS Mar 5 20:12:57 tower plex-rc.plex: start PMS with Library variable Mar 5 20:12:57 tower su[6186]: Successful su for unraid-plex by root Mar 5 20:12:57 tower su[6186]: + root:unraid-plex Mar 5 20:12:59 tower plex-rc.plex: Check 1: Plex has NOT started yet, something is maybe wrong! Mar 5 20:13:01 tower plex-rc.plex: Check 2: Plex has NOT started yet, something is maybe wrong! Mar 5 20:13:03 tower plex-rc.plex: Check 3: Plex has NOT started yet, something is maybe wrong! I'm assuming its the line with the triple? but I'm not sure what to do with it. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Edit: saw the triple ? converted to emoticon so fixed it in the post. Thanks Running 5b12a if that makes a difference.
March 6, 201214 yr Thanks for the reply: Output was as follows: root@tower:~# /etc/rc.d/rc.plex start /bin/bash: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (en_US.utf8): No such file or directory nohup: appending output to `nohup.out' So based on what I saw in the first post - I downloaded and installed the no UTF plugin. I deleted the other one, ran the installplg and rebooted my array. Still running into the same issue but with a different output in the unRaid log: Mar 6 06:56:19 tower plex-rc.plex: starting PMS Mar 6 06:56:19 tower plex-rc.plex: start PMS with Library variable Mar 6 06:56:19 tower su[5388]: Successful su for unraid-plex by root Mar 6 06:56:19 tower su[5388]: + /dev/pts/0 root:unraid-plex Mar 6 06:56:21 tower plex-rc.plex: Check 1: Plex has NOT started yet, something is maybe wrong! So I ran the command again posted in your reply: root@tower:~# /etc/rc.d/rc.plex start nohup: appending output to `nohup.out' I looked for nohup.out as I'm assuming its a log file but I couldn't find it in my quick check this morning. Looking forward to next steps
March 6, 201214 yr Author output of: egrep -i plex /var/log/syslog and cat /boot/config/plugins/plex/plex_settings.cfg
March 6, 201214 yr Be sure you have deleted the old Plex.tar file located in /boot/config/plugins/plex/ I had something like that happen to me and i had forgot to go into that folder and remove the old last Plex tar file. I had only removed the plug-in itself! JM2005
March 6, 201214 yr How can I tell what version of plex I have installed? I'm sure there's a simple way but I can't figure it out. Just wanting to confirm I successfully upgraded to 0.9.5.3.

March 7, 201214 yr Hey everyone - just woke up and naturally first thing I did was check this forum to see what to do next and Oh No, no replies... re-read my last post and thought it may sound like my issues are resolved. They are not, so any suggestions on what to do next would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
March 7, 201214 yr chaz, every problem I've had with PLEX starting is related to permissions. was your old plex running as a different user? in which case you'll need to chown your library and config files to 'unraid-plex'. If you can grab the plex start command from the webgui, and run that on the command line you may get some more telling errors. whiteatom
March 7, 201214 yr Hello all, I'm having some restart issues.... I am running plex on an app drive mounted with the Benni-chan's mount and drive plugin. I was hoping to run everything off that drive, so I have set each app in this plugin to have an install directory of: /mnt/apps/install/<app-name> and a data or library directory of /mnt/apps/data/<app-name>. The problem I'm having is that plex (and only plex) installs into /mnt/apps/install/plex on boot. This causes my app drive to fail on mount (because there is data in the directory). How can I fix this? Can I mount the drive early in the boot process (before the plugins install)? Can I set plex to install on my flash drive??? Why is this necessary? Why is plex the only app installing itself on like this on boot? Cheers, whiteatom
March 7, 201214 yr Thanks for the suggestion whiteatom, I noticed a few things pop up on the GUI page when I enable the server - it comes and goes very quickly but I was able to screenshot it. It seems I may be missing something: ./Plex Media Server: /usr/lib/libstdc++.s0.6: version 'GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by ./Plex Media Server) This message occurs five times each with a different "Required by" As far as permissions: root@tower:/mnt/disk5# ls Backups/ Data/ Movies/ Movies2/ TV\ Shows/ plex/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex# cd /mnt/disk5 root@tower:/mnt/disk5# ls -l total 40 drwxrwx--- 10 nobody users 368 Feb 27 10:08 Backups/ drwxrwx--- 3 nobody users 72 Nov 11 03:40 Data/ drwxr-xr-x 821 root root 40312 Mar 2 08:58 Movies/ drwxrwx--- 3 nobody users 152 Nov 13 08:30 Movies2/ drwxrwx--- 40 nobody users 1232 Mar 2 04:51 TV\ Shows/ drwxrwxrwx 4 unraid-plex users 112 Mar 5 19:05 plex/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex# ls -l total 0 drwxr-xr-x 3 unraid-plex users 88 Mar 5 19:05 Application\ Support/ drwxrwxrwx 2 unraid-plex users 48 Mar 5 19:02 tmp/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/Application\ Support/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex/Application Support# ls -l total 0 drwxrwxrwx 9 unraid-plex users 256 Mar 5 17:39 Plex\ Media\ Server/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex/Application Support# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex/Application Support/Plex Media Server# ls -l total 5 drwxrwxrwx 3 unraid-plex users 80 Nov 16 18:43 Cache/ drwxrwxrwx 3 unraid-plex users 256 Mar 5 16:42 Logs/ drwxrwx--- 3 unraid-plex users 80 Aug 31 2010 Media/ drwxrwxrwx 4 unraid-plex users 96 Nov 16 23:36 Metadata/ drwxrwxrwx 7 unraid-plex users 200 Nov 16 18:43 Plug-in\ Support/ drwxrwxrwx 23 unraid-plex users 824 Mar 4 16:57 Plug-ins/ -rw------- 1 unraid-plex users 486 Mar 5 17:39 Preferences.xml drwxrwxrwx 2 unraid-plex users 48 Nov 16 18:44 Scanners/ I feel like they're set correctly. March 7, 201214 yr That is your problem.. sorry, but that one is over my head. Anyone else? Maybe a dependancy not loading? whiteatom
March 8, 201214 yr Just ran 3 days with 0.9.5.3..as stated earlier it fixed my subtitle issues...but.. IT IS INCREDIBLY UNSTABLE I'm sure its not my config. The whole server crashes randomly at least once a day. I don't have time to dig into it (again...) so may just downgrade... This is the fourth version im running. So far 0.9.5.2 has been the most solid.
March 8, 201214 yr Author @ chaz4070 try cd /path/to/plex export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="."; ./Plex\ Media\ Server and post the output
March 8, 201214 yr @Spidi Wasn't sure if that was Plex plugin or Library - tried them both both and then went into Application Support directory as well: root@tower:/boot/config# cd /boot/config/plugins/plex root@tower:/boot/config/plugins/plex# export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="."; ./Plex\ Media\ Server -bash: ./Plex Media Server: No such file or directory root@tower:/boot/config/plugins/plex# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex# export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="."; ./Plex\ Media\ Server -bash: ./Plex Media Server: No such file or directory root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex# cd /boot/config/plugins/plex root@tower:/boot/config/plugins/plex# ls PlexMediaServer-0.9.5.3.242-dff0bd5-slackware131-i386.tar.bz2* plex_settings.cfg* pms_48px.png* root@tower:/boot/config/plugins/plex# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex# ls Application\ Support/ tmp/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/Application\ Support/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex/Application Support# ls Plex\ Media\ Server/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex/Application Support# cd /mnt/disk5/plex/Application\ Support/ root@tower:/mnt/disk5/plex/Application Support# export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="."; ./Plex\ Media\ Server -bash: ./Plex Media Server: is a directory That doesn't seem like its the right answer above? I'm still concerned about the other error: ./Plex Media Server: /usr/lib/libstdc++.s0.6: version 'GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by ./Plex Media Server) This appears 5 times on the GUI when I enable the server, each having a different "required by". I checked the referenced directory and I have these items listed: libstdc++.so.6@ libstdc++.so.6.0.13* libstdc++.so.6.0.9* Any suggestions are very welcomed. Thanks
March 8, 201214 yr Author according to your plex_settings.cfg you have to: cd /usr/local/plex export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="."; ./Plex\ Media\ Server
