shire
Hello, I have one red drive in my array. I did a long SMART test and it passed. Should I change it (I don't see another solution)? Bye. WDC_WD30EZRZ.txt Edited August 25, 2023 by shire Quote Link to comment
itimpi
What makes you think the drive is dead rather than dimply disabled ? it DOES have a lot of reallocated sectors so you may want to consider replacing anyway. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
If you didn't reboot yet the diagnostics may give some clues. Quote Link to comment
shire
I rebooted the server after I reseated all the drives in their drive caches. I also use pushover on my phone to monitor the server. This drive reported reallocated sectors before the reboot. So in other words (to understand it for the future): - A drive reports an error (like reallocated sectors) - unRAID sees it and takes down the drive (red indicator) - The drive might pass the SMART test nevertheless I found a few posts on how to reenable drives on this forum. I will skip this one and just buy a new drive... Quote Link to comment
Solution itimpi Posted August 26, 2023 Solution Share Posted August 26, 2023 22 minutes ago, shire said: unRAID sees it and takes down the drive (red indicator) This only happens if a write to the drive fails. It is independent of whether a sector is reallocated. passing the extended SMART test is not definitive (although suggestive), whereas failing it is definitely a problem. Not also that the overall SMART assessment based on the SMART attributes is almost meaningless unless it indicates a failure. 1 Quote Link to comment
