HomerJ
Hi all I've been having issues with my cache so I want to format the drives. The problem I'm having though is that I can't get the files moved from the cache. I have already stopped VMs and Docker. In the 2 actual shares that won't move I've told it to do a move and still files stay. I've tried really hard to solve this myself without asking for help, but I don't know what else to do. I've tried moving the files but they won't move. Attached is the Diagnostic File. Thanks in advance!tower-diagnostics-20231218-1953.ziptower-diagnostics-20231218-1953.zip Quote Link to comment
itimpi
The diagnostics suggest that there is severe corruption on the cache which probably explains your issue. There are some "Critical Medium" type messages which may mean it is playing up at the physical level. Chances are that the files that have not moved are lost or damaged beyond repair. HomerJ
Thanks heaps for looking into this for me. I will take note of what is affected by the files which are remaining before I proceed. Can I confirm that what I need to do next is to take the array offline and then reformat my cache? What file system should I be using? Quote Link to comment
HomerJ
I thought I'd try to copy some files just to see if it works. I've only tried with one so far, and it got to 100%, but it doesn't seem to be concluding. Is this because it's picked up the fact that there is an issue with the file? Quote Link to comment

I was just rereading your post and picked up on this. Thank you for not just giving me a hand with my issue, but also going that bit further. My cache is made up from 3 NVMe drives, one of which I have from an old PC build and it only fairly small, so hopefully if the issue is a device, that it's it. What I plan to do going forward is to just use 2 of those drives as my cache, and use the smallest drive as an unassigned drive. Is this as simple as stopping the array and then making the changes while also reformatting the drives? My guess is it's not that simple as unRAID will be expecting 3 drives as the cache. Keen to also know your thoughts on which type of file system is recommended. Quote Link to comment
HomerJ
I just tried copying whoever file and it didn't work either. Thought I'd share this screenshot for giggles. Note the percentage lol Quote Link to comment
