Norco SS-500

Featured Replies

I ended up trying to order two from IPCDirect on 12/30.  I've yet to get any shipping confirmation or an updated order status.  I am going to give them a call in the morning.

I may have to start using the Supermicros or Icy Docks as the default drive cage in Greenleaf builds.

I'm so disappointed by this... LOL!.. Well not really, just kidding around.

All kidding aside, The one good point about using the supermicro's is consistency. They've been in production for many years.

The removable sleds from some other supermicro servers match the sleds from the 5x3.

The bad thing is I'm sure this will increase the cost of the base server config.

ICY Docks have been around for years, yet I've seen them change a bit over time.

Got an email back from Norco.  The SS-500s are out of stock with an expected ETA of 1/25.

Hmm, not sure how trustworthy that is.  Back in November they claimed an expected ETA of 12/20...

Agreed, however i'm not in a rush.  I'll wait until 2/1 and contact them again, if they give me another date i will just cancel and buy some supermicros.

If it doesn't say discontinued, then they will eventually be available again.

Sent an email this morning and the response was "Container is still on the way, ETA is 2/7."

Yeah, we called ipcdirect about getting some and they told us the same thing.

I did recently purchase a 4220 for a client build and it happens to have the new style trays and stuff.  The airflow through the bottom of the tray itself is better, but there is no way to "cut off" air flow coming through the front of the tray.  Previously you could slide a piece of metal over and it would help to stop the air flowing through that tray.  Probably going to miss that feature.

woohoo!  I got a shipping notification and ups tracking number today  8)

Awesome! Can you update this when you get them and note any differences there may be please? I need to get one more to fill my Antec 900 and hoping they are the same as the old ones (atleast visually).

Will do, they'll be here Tuesday.

Yeah, i had a notify setup for this and got the email today. Gonna order one before they sell out again and hope its at least visually the same as the two i already have.

They look a good bit different at least on the rear.  I also got my coolink fans in as well, so we'll see if they still work as well.

Yep, they are using the new tray style, as I suspected.  The rear does look a lot neater as well, similar to the iStarUSA cages.  I'm receiving three of these tomorrow, I'll post a full review once I'm done testing them.  Thanks for the sneak preview!

Looks like it also suports SATA3 now.
