JP Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Geesh...been focused on work for quite a while. My unRaid server has been doing its job, but is starting to ask me for more space. I go to buy a hard drive and who would have thought hard drives would triple in price since the last time I bought one, not me So I read up on the impact of the flooding in Thailand and how it has effected hard drive prices. I do feel for those people. So I guess I'm going to wait to see what Black Friday and Cyber Monday bring. If anyone hears a good deal on a good 2TB drive please let me know, that is, unless it is with a Seagate product. I would be happy to pay twice as much for a Samsung or WD before I buy another Seagate, just a very poor personal experience.
bobbintb Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 wow. i heard about the price increase and didnt know what everyone was talking about because they all were still cheap when i checked but i just checked and... wow. glad i got a bunch of spares. i see some stores on ebay still have them at their regular prices. ive bought from there without issue. and i know what you mean about seagate. from the sound of it, we must have had a similar experience.
BobPhoenix Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 As a general rule I would agree about Seagate. However the last 5 Seagate drives I bought are working fine. The last 5 WD drives I bought I had to RMA 3 of them - so not so fine. My current favorite are Hitachi but until prices go down I have NO favorites and will buy only in dire circumstances. I will start editing my videos to remove padding and duplicates before I buy a $250 drive that was going for $80 the last time I bought.

Oh the things you do learn here on the unRAID forums! Aside ... look up "champ" (as a verb) in the dictionary. The definition - "chomp".
