Some user compiled beep for it to work in some Slackware but if you say its OK in kernel not sure how it's working for some peaple and others not, maybe will try to check it on windows or other os... https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/pc-speaker-motherboard-pcspkr-not-working-after-compiling-in-out-of-tree-module-4175740212/

Does the BIOS beep then work on your Motherboards? TBH I'm also not 100% sure if this is a Kernel issue at all. Thanks for checking that the kernel had this module built in. Also for me, the beeper works in the BIOS. 1x post beep when monitor is connected and 5x it's not connected. All as usual. Just in unraid it just makes a single silent "click" on beep commands. I can try it in Ubuntu live to check if it's working there.

I also tried various frequencys and lengths, without success. Just a really silent click on the start of issuing the beep commands. P.s: I also swapped the Mainboard from an intel i3 5gen to an 12 gen lately. It's an Gigabyte H610I board. Before it was working, with the same unraid setup. Could maybe some powertop tweaks causing this issue? Edited February 5, 20251 yr by pOpYRaid

Have you yet tried to beep it more often with: beep -f 1000 -l 1000 -r 5 This should beep it 5 times, or in your case 5 clicks. I think it has something to do with the modulation or something similar but I could be very wrong about that. 16 minutes ago, pOpYRaid said: Could maybe some powertop tweaks causing this issue? It makes 10 clicks (one every time the tone starts playing and one if it stops). It seems that the PWM (square modulation frequency) is not started/set correctly. Any ideas how we can do some tests? Does the pcspkr module has some sysfs files exported?

February 5, 20251 yr Guys, I found this: Seems chipset related! I'll tried putting my system to sleep and you know what, the buzzer is working as expected after wakeup. @Masterwishx can you please also try this? Here is the command: echo -n mem > /sys/power/state I don't know how to fix that without putting the system to sleep. Any ideas?

February 5, 20251 yr thx, for confirming, that is really strange! So our affected boards are: Asus PRIME B760M-A D4-CSM Gigabyte H610I ASRock B660 So affected chipsets seems gen 6 & 7. @Masterwishx can you try the beep command in an current "Ubuntu 24.04 LTS" live (booted from USB). I can test it in a few days. If it also doesnt work there, we have a better chance that Asus, Gigabyte or ASRock support can reproduce the issue and maybe find a solution. They have better connections to Intel than we have Edited February 5, 20251 yr by pOpYRaid

Sadly, i dont know how to report issues with the linux kernel. Here is the kernel bugzilla: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/ I will open an issue there. March 21, 20251 yr I have reported the issue to kernel bugzilla: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219904
March 21, 20251 yr Community Expert It may be worth retesting with 7.1-beta.1, since it uses a much newer kernel, just in case it's already working there.
March 21, 20251 yr @JorgeBthx for the hint! Updated to 7.1-beta.1 (which has kernel: Linux 6.12.19-Unraid x86_64) and issue is still there.

March 25, 20251 yr Community Expert The bug report mentions this also happens with Windows, so this won't be a Linux issue, not much they can do, I would recommend contacting the board manufacturer

Asus answered today after a couple mails: ``` Hello again, Based on your description, it seems that the issue might be related to the external speaker rather than the firmware of a specific motherboard. In any case, we will look into this matter, and if such a bug exists, it will be fixed in future updates. We recommend keeping your BIOS updated regularly to ensure the proper functionality and stability of your motherboard. Thank you, and have a great day! ```
March 27, 20251 yr Got an rather "standard" answer from GIGABYTE today: Quote Dear customer, Thank you for emailing GIGABYTE. We would like to help you on this Case. We are looking into your request and will come back to you ASAP after figuring it out clearly. Thanks for your patience. Regards GIGABYTE Team We will see....
March 31, 20251 yr Yeah, the answer was expected -> THEY DONT CARE! Quote Dear customer, we got Feedback from our Colleagues for you: It seems like you are using Linux. Please note that we do not verify Linux issue since this MB only officially support Win10 and Win11. We would suggest contact Linux for support first. Please install another SSD with no data stored, install OS, APP Center, utilities, drivers, and check the issue. Thanks for your patience. Regards GIGABYTE Team I have answered them, that the issue also is in windows (not checked by me). But an reddit user says so. Edited March 31, 20251 yr by pOpYRaid
January 11Jan 11 anyone were able to resolve this? so i just changed my system from x570 aorus master to msi pro z890-a with intel core ultra 285k.previous setup works fine with beep. after changed to the new system, beep doesnt work with the same internal speaker. in bios i had to tick POST BEEP to enable. i can hear beep when it post but after going into unraid there's nothing with the beep command. not even a click sound like other's were saying hereso its possible its just an issue with most newer hardware?
January 11Jan 11 I am gave up on this with my H610i Gigabyte board!Or in other words, i have gave up on gigabyte.Their answer ist just they dont suppport linux.I was also stating it happens on windows. But their support driving my crazy. So my workaround is a user script Beep Fix (Standby for 5 seonds after boot) with the following content. It basically goes to standby for 5 seconds after 120 secs on every unraid reboot. This way the beeper works reliable. #!/bin/bash # sleep 120 seconds after boot, so system can settle down sleep 120 # standby and wake it in 5 seconds, with this workaround the beeper is working! thx intel rtcwake -u -s 5 -m mem # sleep again 20 seconds, so we can play our fancy sound sleep 10 # ----------------------------------------------------------- # from now on beeper is working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! # ----------------------------------------------------------- # play array up beep beep -l 300 -f 600 -n -l 300 -f 800 # disable ethernet leds, sadly after wakeup they are on again echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/igc-0100-led0/brightness echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/igc-0100-led1/brightness echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/igc-0100-led2/brightness Edited January 11Jan 11 by pOpYRaid
