stepmback Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 I am leaning toward getting an intel i9 14900 65w version for my unraid server upgrade. My use is primarily Plex, jellyfish and video content storage (large 200GB files). I am upgrading because I can't stream any of my 4k content or raw content on plex. I also need better network throughput and have limitations with my motherboard and CPU. I also would like to get into VMs. I am not really a gamer so no overclocking here. It is my understanding the current versions of this CPU do not have the voltage issue or rather they have resolved the issue by motherboard updates. Given that it took years to change my current setup I would love to get another 10 years out of this one. Any real concerns? Quote

Only time will tell whats going on with 13th and 14th Intel CPUs... Edited September 9, 2024 by Zonediver Quote
domrockt Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Yes my 13700k did throw bluescreens and UE5 errors all the time. I installed the newest bios for my Board and now everything seems Fine but it is tainted. If i would be you and had to choose i would go 12th gen Quote
simplemoe Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I'm in a similar situation, I am looking to upgrade and am contemplating going with a 12th gen i5. The other alternative is to wait and go with a 15th gen. Any thoughts on waiting? Quote
dougraid Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Doesn't the issue only affect core-i9 13th and 14th gen? I thought the core i5 and i7's were not an issue. Quote

bmartino1 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 (edited) I've gotten mixed details. Per intel. This affects all 13th and 14 gen processors. The caveat, due to their extended use in this state and power draw needs, The damage reported was mainly reported within the i9 series, but this does technically affect all 13th and 14 gen... https://community.intel.com/t5/Processors/Microcode-0x129-Update-for-Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Desktop/m-p/1622129 there are 4 micro patches. peterg23 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Two interesting YouTube videos on the Intel problem. Intel Has a Problem Part 2: Post Mortem: Revived. But the Aftermath? Not all Intel 13th Gen CPUs are Raptor Lake. Quote
