Adding disks to existing share

Recommended Posts

Howdy, I have just added 2 disks to my array and am wondering how to use those disks to expand an existing share. The share I want to expand (my only share on the system) was created with 4 disks and was done by leaving the "Include Disk(s):" parameter empty. Do I just need to enter "disk5, disk6" or do I now need to list all 6 disks? Just afraid of mucking the share up.

Thanks, Peter

i believe if you currently have i'ncluded disks' blank, you don't need to do anything once you add the new disks to the array.  the share folders will be automatically created on the new discs if/when they are required, based on whatever 'fill' method you've chosen (ie high water, fill, etc)

Oops! yes, you are right. I didn't see an increase in share size when the disks were added, but after I shut down and restarted the the array the "Free" space now included the new disks.

Stopping and re-starting the array would have done the trick too. No need to completely shutdown.
