January 14, 20251 yr Does anyone know if the difference in power consumption is worth it? Is ASPM worth it or will it cause me problems? The ASM1166 is $15 more and I don't need the extra sata. So, is it worth it? The difference in money is negligible. Thanks
January 15, 20251 yr JMB585 only natively supports 5 drives and uses a port multiplier/replication to get it up to the 8 drives it advertises. This could lead to some headaches. I think the ASM1166 has a firmware that fixes ASPM.
January 15, 20251 yr Christian Lempa did a YouTube video today about the 585 in Unraid. He eventually removed the 585 and replaced it with an ASM-based solution. You may want to see the problem he had and his conclusions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMHMkpA5XnM -- Tom
January 15, 20251 yr The JMB585 is typically a 5 port card. The one Lempa used was an 8 port card with a port multiplier. Either card should work well. I bought an inexpensive ASM1166 from amazon a few years ago and it has been very reliable.

January 15, 20251 yr Do you need 6 ports? If you do, get the ASM1166, if you don't, get whichever is cheaper. They do the same thing, the ASM1166 has 1 extra sata port.
