March 30, 20251 yr Hi I have searched for all the variables and permutations of this issue, but I haven't been able to find anything about this error I brought a APC Back-UPS BX950MI, which is connected via USB (supplied via APC) I have plugged everything and am running the UPS pluggin which is displaying the error "Emergency! Batteries have failed on UPS NameOfNAS. Change them NOW" seeing this, I had swapped it out and still I am getting the same error message. I have tried the various options to switch to Smart / APC Smart, but this displays a communication lost message. Does any one have any suggestions for this? Below are my settings, I have tried entering the actual Watts, but this didn't make any difference. Any suggestions appreciated
March 30, 20251 yr Community Expert For APC UPS, many times after replacing the battery you need to plug the UPS into a Windows machine, run the APC app (PowerChute), and set the Replace Battery Date. Edited March 30, 20251 yr by ConnerVT speeling

March 31, 20251 yr Community Expert You may be able to change date with apctest on CMD line. I don't use APC so don't know if it works. https://opensource.com/article/21/12/linux-apcupsd
March 31, 20251 yr Author This isn't a new battery, this is an entirely new UPS. so I am not sure that will fix this?
March 31, 20251 yr Similar problem have report in several post. https://forums.unraid.net/topic/179085-apc-back-ups-1600va-bx1600mi-unraid-nut-plugin-reports-that-the-usp-battery-needs-replaced-but-its-new/#findComment-1483919
April 1, 20251 yr Author As you mention in the other post, it's true it never does appear to reach 100% I will raise this with APC and see if they are aware of any solutions (which i doubt) but thank's for the link to the other post, although a shame there wasn't a fix :-(
April 5, 20251 yr Author Solution So to close this topic / thread with a response from APC "Thank you for the update. There are no reports of issues with the Linux OS, but this model is not offered for IT-grade server equipment but instead offers a Smart-UPS for these types of devices." So as @Vr2Io says in the other thread and APC, avoid the BX models for Unraid and either buy a 'Smart-UPS' or as @Vr2Io says in the other thread, an Eaton or Cyberpower.
April 5, 20251 yr That's also why I have hardware modify a very old unused APC UPS ( entry level Back-UPS ) be a power source switcher , when power interruption occur, it will switch from mains to second power source and verse reverse ( it still work as UPS ) and notify NUT / APCUPSD. Or you can use it be a power interruption detector only. Lot of test and modifying, remove the battery, transformer and add two power input socket ...... Edited April 5, 20251 yr by Vr2Io

March 17Mar 17 Community Expert After replacing the battery in an APC UPS, you need to connect it to a Windows PC, run the APC software (PowerChute) and reset the battery install date. This is assuming the battery is functional and was installed correctly. The UPS will reset the battery health parameters it has stored.
