This key comes preloaded with some software, can I use it? It is a Cruzer flash.

Yes, good choice.  You can re-format under Windows to quickly erase it.

My two Cruzers showed up today too :D They are already formatted as FAT, will leaving that software alone cause issues Tom? dunno' what I'd ever use it for but am curious. Will send you serials in a moment.

BTW, this is a VERY nice form factor. My only complaint is that the R/W light is a bright green and I really liked the blue ;)

rharvey,

How did you manage to download the free version as the download link unRaid Server is broken?

Did Tom pull the link?

You can get your 2 keys by following the instructions for Pre-3.0 Upgrade users. The link to Pre-3.0 Upgrade Instructions is the first line under Instructions on the new Download page.

Hope this helps.

IMHO (speaking as a network administrator), the U3 software that comes preinstalled on these new USB drives is one of the most poorly conceived and executed ideas I've ever seen. ::)  It probably won't matter much booting Linux, but the U3 launcher resides on a virtual CDFS mount point on the drive and can NOT be removed by formatting the drive.  Fortunately, after much pressure, the company has released an uninstaller that will permanently remove the CDFS mount and return the drive to a normal USB flash.  You can find the uninstaller here: For SanDisk drives http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1415, and for all others http://www.u3.com/uninstall/.  Trust me, the headaches this thing causes far outweigh any usefulness it may have  ;)

Thanks, I just received my key this morning and proceded to unistall the software from the link you posted.

Great stuff, tonight I will try to put together my first Unraid server and see how it goes...

Will keep you posted. For now I only have 3 500 GB drives, so I have loaded the basic version for testing.

Already have 800 GB on other hard disks which I will transfer on the Unraid so it won't take long to fill the free space.

Welcome aboard gnollo!   ;D

Spent a couple of hours yesterday night filling up the Coolermaster case.

A quick question, is your power supply sucking air in from below the case (using the metal grid at the bottom of the case) or from inside the case? I have installed the power supply so it removes air from the case, and blows it out at the back (which is the opposite of the Coolermaster case design). I just don't feel that the metal grid will let in enough air for such a big fan (using a Seasonic 430 Power supply).

Unraid server up and running now, couple of issues with mboard needing three power cables connected to it (last PC I build only needed one, has been a while....). Now parity synch in progress, 131 minutes to go... I am going to put my feet up and go to my bed...

So far so good with beta 2. Tomorrow I will upgrade to beta 4 and move to unraid 480GB of data, that should be a good test.

gnollo,

You might want to hold off on going to beta4 as there has been some problems encountered by several users who have updated to beta4.

Just a thought.

TCIII
