June 16, 201214 yr This looks like an amazing deal, but ... any reason I wouldn't want to get a couple of these? I need to build a server for my sister for all of her work, and another for the house, but don't want to get something that is going to be problematic. I can't find much of anything on the forum about the motherboard, but the CPU, RAM, and the controller cards do not seem to be an issue. Any info would be much appreciated (sorry for the newb question...)
June 16, 201214 yr Author The board is a server grade board. Chipset is an intel, don't think unraid have issue with those. Even if the mobo doesn't work with unraid, strip it out and put in a standard ATX. A 24 bay chassist is at least 300. June 16, 201214 yr The only downside I see is higher power consumption than a more modern build, but for all the money you'll save it is probably worth it!
June 16, 201214 yr "More than 10 available / 33 sold" QQ I wish I lived in the states.. This would cost me another $300 to have it posted to AU Just so you are aware, they do also quote "Hard Drive: has internal 160GB IDE drive for OS, but no SATA hard drives in trays, tray style may vary from what is pictured" but this shouldn't be an issue. Still might be worth checking for anyone looking to buy though. Just for my own curiousity, if anyone finds out the dimensions could you post them? I wan't to know if I'm actually missing out, I have a feeling these would be too deep for my rack anyway.
June 16, 201214 yr Author The norco chassis are pretty loud as well right ? I also wonder how loud this is. Probably fairly loud...
June 16, 201214 yr The norco chassis are pretty loud as well right ? Compared to a desktop, yes. Compared to a typical server, its quiet.
June 17, 201214 yr The norco chassis are pretty loud as well right ? Compared to a desktop, yes. Compared to a typical server, its quiet. Especially if you swap out the stock fan wall. With 3 120s instead of 4 80s, noise is quite reasonable.
June 17, 201214 yr In for 3. Somebody else bought the last one. If you still want one, they have this one for $25 more. Shipping was $90 per server. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Xeon-Dual-Core-2-0GHz-8GB-DDR2-Internal-160-IDE-24-Bay-SATA-Server-/150813402842?pt=COMP_EN_Servers&hash=item231d2de6da Wonder why they have 3 power supplies in them. They are non standard and you can see them here. I probably don't want to know how much they cost to replace.... http://www.biggerbids.com/auction-image-gallery.php?auction_id=466846&image_id=2792417
June 19, 201214 yr Looks like they are all gone folks. I was able to snatch up 2 of the lower spec ones originally linked. Apparently there was a post on AVSforum for over a month about these things, and it generated a bit of chatter.
June 19, 201214 yr Anyone get this to work? Boot off flash drive? Controller cards view 3TB/4TB drives?
June 19, 201214 yr Making a new thread for people who bought one of these servers off ebay. I just got mine in and am having issues getting it to boot off the flash drive. So, if you purchased the $200 or $225 version of this server: http://www.ebay.com/itm/150813402842?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1957wt_1396 This is the thread to troubleshoot it in: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=20913.0

June 19, 201214 yr The MB supports IPMI, but needs a Supermicro Add-on Card AOC-SIMLP-3+ - remote management adapter to fit the SIMLP IPMI slot. If you received yours already, did they come with this add-on card to support ipmi?
June 19, 201214 yr Am I correct in guessing these are the power supplies for the servers? Mine server should be in shortly. From the photos it looks like the servers can actually take 4 power supplies. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ablecom-PWS-702A-1R-Redundant-Module-Switching-Power-Supply-/170784849038?pt=US_Server_Power_Supplies&hash=item27c391fc8e

However when I looked up the case http://www.aicipc.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ref=RSC-4ED2 it appears that only three are in it in the photo, so I am unsure. I don't think that the seller removed one from each server, but idk. When I get the server I ordered, I will check it out, may need to get a couple extra modular pus's. EDIT: Looks like that is a custom solution for that case by a company, but it is the only pics of the case I found, and there it also only uses 3 PSUs.
June 20, 201214 yr Mine should be arriving tonight, out for delivery according to shipper. This was extremely quick shipping, I don't use paypal so tams called me monday for payment. I am in Cali and they are in Utah, so 3 days on shipping on large items like this is impressive.
June 21, 201214 yr The MB supports IPMI, but needs a Supermicro Add-on Card AOC-SIMLP-3+ - remote management adapter to fit the SIMLP IPMI slot. If you received yours already, did they come with this add-on card to support ipmi? Looks like the units do come with the card for IPMI. Has anyone received one yet? How accurate is the listing? Looks like the listing was 100% accurate. Pictures showed 3 PSU's, 3 MV8's, ect, ect. On a side note it looks like the shipping BIOS on the super micro does not boot from anything but SATA or CD. I didn't have time tonight to update the BIOS. But was able to confirm that out of the box my units would not boot a newly imaged UNRAID flash drive.(I am positive it was correct, booted my custom built norco build no problem.) The rear pins that connect are entirely different. The only thing I was disappointed by was that the units came with no HDD screws, thought I read another user got plenty, maybe he requested them when he spoke with the seller.

On page 1 of this thread there is a link to a troubleshooting thread http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=20913.0 Where it seems they got it to boot from the usb drive. I'm having the same issue, wants to boot from a hard drive. I'll give it another look tonight. I didnt get any screws either.

On boot there is a dialogue that states that the current version of the BIOS only boots from SATA or CD. I am going to look into updating the BIOS and then I am sure it will be fine. If not, I will be loading some sort of OS on a SATA drive. The IPMI Card is in the innermost slot. Not sure where you got the "blinking" from, but yes, it is that one.
