May be an option, thought I read somewhere on here though that this hardware config would not allow hardware passthrough. So even using a ESXi install I wouldn't be able to virtualize Unraid.

That's what I was just about to post. If someone can prove that wrong, I would be VERY happy.

Looks like the units do come with the card for IPMI.

...

Looks like the listing was 100% accurate. Pictures showed 3 PSU's, 3 MV8's, ect, ect.

On a side note it looks like the shipping BIOS on the super micro does not boot from anything but SATA or CD. I didn't have time tonight to update the BIOS. But was able to confirm that out of the box my units would not boot a newly imaged UNRAID flash drive.(I am positive it was correct, booted my custom built norco build no problem.)

The only thing I was disappointed by was that the units came with no HDD screws, thought I read another user got plenty, maybe he requested them when he spoke with the seller.

The IPMI card - is that that thing that's blinking?

On page 1 of this thread there is a link to a troubleshooting thread

Where it seems they got it to boot from the usb drive. I'm having the same issue, wants to boot from a hard drive. I'll give it another look tonight. I didnt get any screws either.

On boot there is a dialogue that states that the current version of the BIOS only boots from SATA or CD. I am going to look into updating the BIOS and then I am sure it will be fine. If not, I will be loading some sort of OS on a SATA drive.

The IPMI Card is in the innermost slot. Not sure where you got the "blinking" from, but yes, it is that one.

There is a small card in a black slot, and it has a light that blinks. Doesnt attach to anything else.

Yes, thats the IPMI card.

Just for my own curiousity, if anyone finds out the dimensions could you post them? I wan't to know if I'm actually missing out, I have a feeling these would be too deep for my rack anyway.

... when I looked up the case http://www.aicipc.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ref=RSC-4ED2 ...

Dimensions are listed as

mm: 482.6 x 673.1 x 177.8

inches: 19 x 26.5 x 7

Can anyone that has received their server verify this, please?

I will get this for you when I get home tonight.

That is exactly what my AMD setup measures...

Same case... different motherboard  :)

That's about what mine measures.

Wow those are huge cases, definitely wouldn't have fit my ~400 deep rack :P

Just realised that they fit an E-ATX motherboard, with space. There isn't much cooling behind the drive racks, has anyone thought about modifying this? If you plan on keeping the chassis ofc.

Anyone know what the backplane model is in this beast?

They are back in stock (both 1.8 and 2 ghz versions), just not on eBay, if people are interested.

does the X7DBE-X support hardware passthrough for esxi ( that would work with unraid)?

I have the AMD version, but could always use another one for this price that does esxi.

Thanks

Talk about missing the boat....I think i'm going to  :'(

Sorry to report that I cannot prove you wrong.  No VT-d support on this MB.  :(

  • 4 weeks later...

The post above shows that the AMD version of these servers does not support ESXi.

Anyone know about the Intel Xeon servers that were for sale?  What motherboard did it come with / does it support hardware passthrough?

Actually I was referring to the Intel one.  CPU and MB as listed in the original post.

Ah, thanks. I was having trouble sorting through the quasi-parallel lines of discussion :)

For anyone who was originally looking at these units, I would suggest going back to the original forum post. There are new servers that are much more home friendly. Not sure on ESXi support yet, but for a stock unraid config it is awesome
