This seems to keep happening to me, trying not to blacklist another USB drive. Any ideas?

Seems to come and go quite frequently without me doing anything.

It still shows up in the webGUI and I am able to access it so I don't know what the deal is:

Download a copy of your zip configuration right now (Flash Backup) and store it on another computer. Then purchase a reliable USB stick.

This looks more like there's a corrupt file on the flash drive, not a bad flash:

Aug 13 04:56:01 Mibix-Module webgui: Failed to parse config file: //..g/...

But not sure how to find it by that name other than trial and error.

In terms of checking config files (*.cfg) it is worth mentioning that they should all be human readable text files so opening them in a text editor tends to make it obvious when corruption has occurred.

@Mibix examine your syslog at that timestamp and see if you can identify the file

I have since restarted not sure how to go back that far, I found a couple of these since though:

Aug 20 19:59:48 Mibix-Module webgui: Failed to parse config file: /boot/config/plugins/dynamix/dynamix.cfg

I do have these two dynamix plugins installed:

I deleted the config file and regenerated it by changing the display settings, hopefully that helps, thanks.

No more incidents so far after switching to a different USB port and deleting/regenerating that config file. I did buy those industrial drives just incase.

One more thing worth considering now that you have the industrial drive -- a 9-pin to USB adapter cable lets you plug the drive into an internal USB 2.0 header on the motherboard rather than a rear panel port. Keeps the drive tucked safely inside the case.

Completes the setup nicely.

Seems like i have a corrupted USB drive.

First i ended up in the "Onboarding loop above" when i tried to login. ( I have not tried to update anything)
When i managed to get out of that loop and tried to login to the server from my computer i get
"your boot drive is corrupted or offline..."

I plugged the USB drive into my windows computer, got a complaint that it needed to be fixed once but then it seemed ok.
I copied all files on the drive to my windows computer and then ran a scan disk on the USB drive which came out ok.
Meanwhile i have created a new UNRAID bootdrive (on a new stick if needed)
I have not yet shutdown my server. I can still access files on the server from my Windows computer for some reason.

Question: What should i do?
- do i reboot my server to see if the old bootdrive is working now?
- Do i plug in my new stick with the old config filed copied onto it?
- What about my license, will that work?
- ...

Collect Diagnostics: I have tried SSH and Telnet but connection is refused. Direct connection (keyboard/screen attached to the server) just displays "crond[2261]: exit status 1 ..." and can't be made to do anything else

Any hints on how to proceed?

See if you can get the syslog at least: cp /var/log/sylog /boot/syslog.txt

I don't see how i can get the syslog when i am in no contact with the server.
The Server consists of only two 20TB drives at the moment, one parity and one data and i have had no issues with it before.
So I don't think that there is any issue with the server itself, just the USB bootdrive so if i can get the old or a new bootdrive to work...
The old bootdrive is a Sony 32GB, the new i created is a Samsun BAR Plus

Do i risk any data if i reboot the server?

If you cannot type anything in the console, you will need to reboot, by force if needed. Data should be OK, make sure to enable the Sylog server after in case it happens again.

I have also enabled syslog now as recommended. Can i get it to write the syslog or mirror it to my computer instead of storing it in the server? (Kind of useless to have it there if the server does not work)
However, i don't trust that SONY drive any more. I would like to use my one of my new SAMSUNG USB's instead. How do i go about it to move my bootdrive from the SONY to the SAMSUNG without risking data or license?

You can if you run a syslog server on the remote machine. Dont mirror to flash as that will wear it out faster and/or cause more issues if the USB is going bad.

You run the usb creator tool on the new usb, install the same version of unraid, copy over your entire "config" folder from the old to the new. Boot urnaid, perform the license transfer and blacklist the old usb(license).
