zacburgess
Hi I am about to build my unraid server. I am using a old computer, I have tried out my server with 250gb hard drivers but the drives have died. I have been looking at 2tb hard drives. I have been looking at building two of theses http://www.ebuyer.com/319641-seagate-2tb-barracuda-internal-hard-drive-st2000dm001 What do people think? Is it a good drive for a unraid server? spants
dont forget that the parity must also be as large or larger that the largest data disk.... People seem a little off now with seagates as they only offer 1 year warranty, so that may be a consideration. WD Reds seem the new favourite but they dont seem to be available here in the UK yet. I haven't had much problem with drives so cost is important for me. I have just ordered the 3tb seagate for £104.99 inc delivery/vat from ebuyer. Tony Quote Link to comment
zacburgess
Hi Tony I am going to use one of the 2tb drives as the party. Well for the same price of as the seagetes I can get http://www.ebuyer.com/264274-wd-2tb-green-desktop-drive-wd20earx So what you saying is the WD are better for unraid Zac Quote Link to comment
seanant
Is the Seagate constellation sata model available to you? I'm running 3 of them and no problems with good performance. Those were used to replace the 1.5 TB 7200 problem drives in my system. Quote Link to comment
zacburgess
hi Seanant yeah the Seagate constellation is available but its double the price. So when I need 2 drives its alot more. Do you mean you are running 3 of Seagate constellation? Zac Quote Link to comment
baggies
For the money i think your better going for a 3tb drive. Quote Link to comment
spants
for the little extra, I would go for the 3tb - Im just buying one to release a 2tb but future purchases will be 3tb. Will also cut down on the number of drive bays you need (if you standardise on 3tb) because your requirement *will* grow! Quote Link to comment
seanant
I'm running 3 now yes. They're fast and so card dependable. Seagate upgraded me with two sata models and for some reason the 3rd is a sas model. Good thing I have the norco 3x5. Quote Link to comment
