October 19, 201213 yr For DVD use AnyDVD and DVDShrink to rip to ISO. Drop extra languages you don't need and don't compress. Bluray, rip with eac3to command line or a GUI. I use the GUI from meGUI. Compress with h.264 with say HandBrake or meGUI. Merge with I think MakeMKV. Always check the log for forced subs. If you have any there's a Java tool, bdsup2sub I think, that converts them. Saved just the forced. Compressing with h.264 I drop at least a third of the file size :-) Yeah, I've done this a few times!
October 20, 201213 yr Im to lazy to rip dvds. I just download the H264 MKVs, rarely ISOs. Of course I only download moves that I have a legal copy of.
November 3, 201213 yr Well...just found the first PLEX limitation...won't play ISO files over the network...bummer!!! Plex has many nice features and it does indeed play ISO files. The ISO files often need to be stripped of extras but they do as a whole play fine. I have been using Plex for around a year and I am very happy with its performance and features. I really like watching my latest recorded TV episodes at work on my phone or tablet all streamed from my unRaid server at home.
