siamsquare
Yo, How does one add a user with read-only permissions? I want to add a mediaplayer via SMB with login/pw but with read-only permissions so my daughter or wife can't accidentally delete something! Thanks Ps! Happy NY Quote Link to comment
lainie
You will need to use the smb-extra file. Here is a thread with more details http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9453.0 Quote Link to comment
Johnm
I have all of my media players use a generic user ID. usually XBMC with a pass of XBMC or something similar. This works fine for me since I don't write to the servers from the media players. (this might not work with all players out there, it works with XBMC for me) Create a Media player user. (XBMC for example) Set the SMB share type to Export:Yes and Securty:Private then set all of your media shares to read only for XBMC and give yourself and any other accounts that need write access read/write. Then set your media player to use that account on the server I also visit all of my other shares and set my media account to "No access" for all other shares on the server to keep nosy eyes out of my private stuff. the only problem with this is if you write your scrap data to your media share. you might need to have a master player with read write. siamsquare
All shares configured as Secure are read-only by default. OK so how do I enable full access on a SMB share for myself then so I can have full access from my PC? Found allmost the answer! But for some reason I cannot add a user when I hit add in USERS in Unraid main, I can fill in all the data but user isn't added,...hmm Found it, user started with capital letter!
