(i.e. its write strategy errs on the side of continuous writing w/o pausing for error correction.) I don't know if there's any truth to that, but if it IS true, that's very concerning for a data drive.

Yeah, this drive is perfect for a survelliance DVR or if you were building a DVR at home but not for long term data storage of anything else. It's made to handle continuous streams of data without worring about the occasional bad sector...
