I see references that this drive's intended for video recording applications, and as such, does not attempt to correct write errors.  (i.e. its write strategy errs on the side of continuous writing w/o pausing for error correction.)  I don't know if there's any truth to that, but if it IS true, that's very concerning for a data drive.

For $119, WD can still offer a three year warranty. Wish that was the case on the EAR* line.

Yeah, this drive is perfect for a survelliance DVR or if you were building a DVR at home but not for long term data storage of anything else.  It's made to handle continuous streams of data without worring about the occasional bad sector...
