March 11, 201313 yr any good install help or just place the plg file where Sab/slick plugins at? A. It's a txz file, I believe B. I believe you place it in /boot/extra, although, I couldn't get it to work so I just placed this in my go file:- #Wait until array is started until `cat /proc/mdcmd 2>/dev/null | grep -q -a "STARTED" ` ; do echo ">>>waiting..." ; sleep 1 ; done ; echo ">>>STARTED." #Install plex installpkg /boot/extras/PlexMediaServer*.txz #Wait a bit, plex is a bit buggy sleep 30s #Launch plex /etc/rc.d/rc.plexmediaserver start
March 11, 201313 yr Just download it from www.plexapp.com and stick it in /boot/extra - that's all you should have to do. If your server starts too quickly (lol), you may have to do something like Automatic did above. Note that there is no need to forward a port for MyPlex if your router supports uPnP - which most routers these days do. Try publishing your server to MyPlex without specifying a port and doing the port forward first - if uPnP is enabled, it should all 'just work'.

It's not that it starts too quickly, it's just that plex bugs out and if I run it too fast after I install it then it just never replies (on port 32400). Not sure if the installer tries to launch it (and fails every time) and my one is disregarded, or if that it's not fully installed, or whatever, I just know that without that line plex refuses to launch until I manually go in and launch it. I would look deeper into it, but, why bother? To shave 30 seconds off my boot time to video watching time? I barely ever restart, not worth the hassle.

March 11, 201313 yr To OP I would suggest you set a VPN up between yourself and your fathers location. This way you do not need to open your network. If you do not have router that can handle VPNs or that you cannot load either DD-WRT or Tomato on, I would suggest a couple of ASUS RT-N16 running Tomato. If you want to splurge get a pair of ASUS RT-N66U. Then you can set up an OpenVPN link. FIOS networking options, http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.0_Networking. Use Toastman's QOS setup and you should be good to go. I would also store your certificates/keys on a USB memory stick. Nothing large is needed, I had a 4G stick laying around that I used. This helps get around the limited amount of NVRAM in these routers. You could then use a streamer such as the WD box to stream video or setup an XBMC device at your fathers. Something like the Pivos Xios DS might work, http://www.pivosgroup.com/xios.html. I use one running the Linux image and it works fine for me. On my server, I have both the SAMBA and NFS shares running. I use the SAMBA share for my PC and the NFS share for the Xios DS. This way you would not need top install any additional software on your server. I tried Plex on my server when I initially set it up, while it worked, I decided it was not for me.
