unRAID server not showing up in list on WD Live

Featured Replies

I have a WD Live box that use to display and play movies just fine from my WD Live box. After switching out a router, for some reason now, my unRAID doesn't even show up in the list of Media Servers or Network storage menu's on WD Live.

I'm running unRAID Server Pro version: 5.0-beta6a.

I have SMB enabled.

Security Mode is WORKGROUP

NFS is enabled.

I have static IP setup and I've triple checked IP, gateway and DNS settings.

Enable User Shares is 'Yes'.

I also can see my server on my Windows 8 and my Windows 7 PC in Network Neighborhood just fine. And I also can see my WDLIVEPLUS just fine.

I've been trying to troubleshoot this thing for over a month now. Just not sure what to do next. Any ideas are very much appreciated.

Being you've had this problem for a month now I'm guessing the answer is yes but I'll ask anyway. Have you rebooted the WD Live?

Are you sure your IP range is the same on your new router as your old one? If you set the IP static on your unraid server itself and then swapped routers and the router uses a different IP range that could be a problem. There could also be an IP conflict with your server requesting an IP that is already assigned to another device.

Good question, yes I've rebooted it many times. I've also rebooted the server a few times.

The IP range is ok, I've checked that as well. The WD Live is running DHCP and has a valid IP (i've checked the logs on the router) with no conflicts that I can see. Again, I can see the my unRAID on Windows just fine. I can also see "Media Servers" on WD Live, but don't have anything listed under "Video-->Network Shares".

We have an old WD live in one of the rooms and I'm pretty sure it worked straight away. Only once or twice so far it didn't see tower and have to reboot. It has been in use from the early 5+ betas on with no trouble. I have a static IP for Unraid too but i don't even think i had to put it into the WD settings as it reliably picks it up each time.

If you want me to check some settings on mine I can no problem

(1) Have you rebooted the router as well? I had a Linksys router that had to be rebooted 1X per week. If it was not rebooted, I would not be able to see the Shares on my WDTV Live, even though I could see the Unraid server under network shares.

(2) It could be a problem with the WDTVs as well. We have multiple WDTV and a WDTV Live Hub, and they all need to be occasionally rebooted to see the shares on my unraid server. I've always assumed this to be a WDTV problem.

Make sure you reboot all network devices (switches, etc).  A corrupt or stale arp table could cause this kind of problem.

"... After switching out a router ..."  ==>  Clearly there's some setting in the router that's causing this issue.

Do you still have the old router?    If so, connect it to another PC and log into the router's management page.    Then log into your new router's management page with a different PC.    Then CAREFULLY look through the settings.  I suspect there's a port that has to be open for the WD Live; or perhaps a firewall setting on one of the routers that's blocking the WD Live's "view" of the network.

I have two WD lives one is always a problem child and the other always works flawlessly.

Since I just got a new WDTV Live (the hockey puck sized SMP (streaming media player) variety) and had to figure out why it wouldn't talk to unraid, thought I'd post here to share what I learned and how to fix it.

The only thing I had to change to get the WDTV to see unraid was to make sure that unraid was set to the SMB workgroup "WORKGROUP".  I also made sure to scream it in German "VERKGROUPPEN!!!" as I typed it in as machines can smell uncertainty.

Set up a new user 'wdtv' with read only rights on unraid, set up the WDTV with the same user, and problem solved.

Woot, now PLEX/roku free! I can name and organize my files MY WAY!!!

Sorry Brian, but I have to correct you:

"VERKGROUPPEN!!!"
is not German  :(

I would have guessed it's Dutch but google recognizes it as Swedish... ???

In German it's called ARBEITSGRUPPE

;D

Cheers

Fireball

dutch would be

werkgroep

Yea, I noticed.

as machines can smell uncertainty

Makes sense when you learned german from that warning sign... ;)

btw. thanks for sharing that pdf!

I laughed till I cried.  ;D ;D ;D ;D
