October 2, 201312 yr I was afraid that was going to be the answer...I guess one more day won't kill me. Dan What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!!!
October 3, 201312 yr Most Windows-based file recovery utilities cannot work on the Reiserfs file system. You can, of course, install a Linux IFS that will let you access the UnRAID disk [the free LinuxReader works well for this: http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ ], but while this will let you access the disk from within Windows, it won't let Windows file recovery programs work on it. There are literally dozens of Windows based utility programs that will work on reiserfsck.
October 3, 201312 yr Author Dgaschk, Do you have a favorite windows based recovery utility? I had an offsite backup of my precious data...however, it was last updated 6 months ago (my bad...learned the hard way). The only data that I would like to attempt to recover is any digital photos. Have you every used the Test Disk + Photorec??? Dan
October 3, 201312 yr I like OnTrack's Easy Recovery Pro, but it's not free. GetDataBack is also very well thought of. However, neither of these will work with Reiserfs. I have NOT used this one, but it runs on Windows, and will recover files from a Reiserfs volume: http://download.cnet.com/Raise-Data-Recovery-for-ReiserFS/3010-2248_4-75206770.html?tag=contentBody;sideBar I'm not sure if it requires an independent Reiserfs IFS, but if so the free LinuxReader should work for that: http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/

I use dd rescue to image the drive and then work on a copy of the image.
October 7, 201312 yr Author Here is a quick update and another lesson learned....I think I know why I was unable to recover data on my drive. I know this instruction is clear on the website...I am just passing it along as a reminder...when a drive fails you should disable all plugins/addons....it just so happens that I had the MYSQL package installed and I had it running on Disk8...so when I started the array...mistakenly formated the drive...when it was done and the array started MYSQL was written to Disk8. I believe this is why the reseiserfsck did not work....so far recovery tools have not been sucessful...a few .jpg photos...all canon photo raw files are corrupt and my mpg videos...what the program is recovering may start as one recorded tv show (ABC for example) and then at some point the balance of the file is another TV show...sometimes from another network. So remove addons when trying to recover/replace a bad disk and don't drink and unraid! Dan

Dan and that is why I hate running this kind of system with anything but stock config. to many thing to remember and possible to screw-up.
