Been a while since I have needed to clear a disk. What happens if you add a disk to a new slot and let Unraid clear it? Can you stop the array while it is clearing?

You can cancel the clear and stop the array, disk is only assigned to the array after the clear finishes successfully.

That's what I would expect. So then you would have to assign the disk again and start the array and the clear would start over from the beginning I assume.

Somewhat similar for the "clear and remove" feature being discussed. The disk isn't unassigned until the clear finishes successfully. If you stop the array and start it again, the disk is still assigned, it isn't clear, but since it was clearing it is unmountable. The user would have to format it before they would be allowed to attempt the "clear and remove" again.

The clear would have to be restarted, but a format would not be needed as parity was being updated in real time   No reason an ‘unmountable’ disk cannot be cleared.

Technically there is no reason. But I suggested above (previous page now) not allowing the button to appear if a disk was unmountable. Trying to keep it from being too easy to make a serious mistake. Similar to the mistake they make when they format a corrupt disk, except easier to make and even more difficult to recover anything from.
