January 16, 201412 yr Greeting to everyone from England. I have just upgraded my 2 servers to 5.0.4, i have simple features, unmenu and a who pile of plugins on one of the servers which has taken some time to get running well, the other server is pretty clean and is the main data store, it just has simple features and unmenu. The first server has a cashe drive installed where all the apps info is kept so i dont loose everything on a reboot. I have read that simple features is no longer the Gui of choice and that its not supported alongside 5.x.x and that i should use Dynamix and its plugin manager - stop me where i go wrong. I understnad i should remove simple features, reboot and then install dynamix and its plugin manager and then load the available plugins again, i read not to use it with the lime-tech enhanced gui (how do you know if you have that, and how do you eliminate it - but could someone do something a bit more step by step and how do i ensure that all of the current config is still in place as i really do not want to try to set everything up from scratch. Simple features is in boot/plugins and the additional plugins are in boot/config/plugins, as i said the config files are on the cashe under a /apps directory. Also do i still need unmenu or are we way past that point now? I want to get everything up to speed but not at the expense of getting something wrong and loosing a lot of work, even if not actual data and what i have seen so far does not take you from a running system like mine with plugins etc to the desired end position so help with this would be appreciated by me and i am sure by others Thanks in advance
January 17, 201412 yr I have read that simple features is no longer the Gui of choice and that its not supported alongside 5.x.x and that i should use Dynamix and its plugin manager - stop me where i go wrong. -- No, No! Keep Going! Seriously, though, SF is not compatible with 5.0. Be sure to do a complete cleaning of all SF stuff. Installing Dynamix will automatically remove the unRAID enhanced GUI. UnMENU and Dynamix are compatible and may be run together. (note that they use different browser ports.) It sounds as if you've done your homework, but don't forget the instructions about upgrading from prior versions to 5. (Permissions fix, change in user and root security, etc.)
January 17, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the reply Servers are now on 5.0.4 and everything is running fine, permissions etc. I am almost ready to take the plunge and spend some time sorting this out but i just want to clarify now what do i do with all of my exisiting plugins? Do i remove them and have to reinstall under dynamix, will dynamix adopt anything that is in bbot/config/plugins, if i delete and reinstall with dynamix plugin manager will all the config files for these which are on my cache drive still be used - its just this migrations of plugins that is still unclear to me as i have quite a lot including crashplan, APCups, sab, sick, headphones - almost all the influencer ones actualy and i want to know if they are all usable and available under dynamix and how to avoid starting again kind of thing
January 17, 201412 yr I use Dynamix and not unMENU, but it looks as if both GUIs have plugin management. I'd approach this in stages. If you are planning to run both Dynamix and UnMENU, install both basic interfaces first. Then try both and pick the interface that you're most comfortable with using. Install the plugins you need into that interface. Reboot, test everything, then install the plugins in the secondary interface, reboot and test. I use 'PLEX', 'vfs_Recycle' and a few other 'independent' plug-ins which are not 'standard' Dynamix plugins. Dynamix organizes them nicely into the tabbed web interface. I'm not sure how unMENU handles these. And I guess I'd be wary of installing two plugins that try to do the same thing...choose either the Dynamix Web Server plugin, or another one but not both. If you're in the mood for multiple interfaces, you might also want to check out Trolley and Boxcar. (Boxcar is the GUI, and Trolley takes care of automatic updates) They aren't as finished as Dynamix, perhaps, but show promise. There's good coordination going on between Dynamix and Boxcar on Plug-in 'standardization' and 'coordination'.
January 19, 201412 yr hilly, just to simplify the gist of this post: how do i un-install simpleFeatures? with that said: sorry to be latching onto your thread, but have you gotten any further in creating more detailed step-by-step upgrade instructions for the migration from SimpleFeatures to Dynamix? I just now found out that it is a recommended, if not necessary, "upgrade", but every time a few months pass after i got my unRAID all set up and running smoothly, something else seems to come along which requires a number of pretty deep-reaching changes...and my mind just doesn't seem to cache all of the info of how i got to the last setup running so smoothly. how do i even un-install SF? my go script doesn't have any mention of it...it simply reads: #!/bin/bash # Start the Management Utility /usr/local/sbin/emhttp & # Fix vftpd conf file echo "anon_world_readable_only=NO" >> /etc/vsftpd.conf sed -i 's/.*local_root=.*/local_root=\//' /etc/vsftpd.conf installpkg /boot/packages/powerdown-1.02.tgz i do see the "simpleFeatures" folder at the same level as the go script, so do i simply delete that folder? and do i also delete all the "plugins" folder with all simpleFeatures .plg files and folders? if you think that i should create my own thread, rather than latching on to yours, please do let me know, and accept my apology for having posted this here...but maybe yours can become a thread for everyone just as confused as me in how to make the migration as smooth as possible.

January 20, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the replies. Maybe what i am asking is not so clear. I get the information regardign simple features, what i do not understandis the plugins i have - can i just leave them and dynamix will adopt them, do i delete the boot/config/plugins contents and install after dynamix? what about all of the config it has taken me ages to get right, will this be adonpted by the new plugins if i have to install them from the /apps folder on my cache drive. Once its clear how to migrate existing plugins i will give it a go Thanks
January 20, 201412 yr You do delete all SimpleFeatures Plugins. Instead you install the Dynamix ones. They are essentially the same somewhat improved versions. You'll have to redo your settings for them. Please note, that only the Dynamix base plugin has to be installed in /boot/plugins the other Dynamix Plugins now have to be placed in /boot/config/plugins. All other plugins should eventually migrate without uninstalling. No guarantee on that though. The cleanest way would be to reinstall without any plugins and reinstall them step by step. Make a full backup of your old stick content so you could fallback in case of problems.

Once its clear how to migrate existing plugins i will give it a go Thanks All Dynamix is really doing is displaying your plugins in a different way than the stock unRAID GUI. Except for the actual Dynamix plugins which provide additional features, none of the other plugins such as SAB, etc are really installed in Dynamix, they are installed in unRAID. Of course there is always the possibility of conflicts between plugins. Once I got my plugins working, I didn't have any problem just leaving them in and installing Dynamix. In fact, I have not even bothered to remove any when doing unRAID upgrades.
January 20, 201412 yr SirG and Trurl are correct. Kill your SF plugins and replace with the Dynamix ones. The rest are probably fine. I have three plugins installed that are not part of Dynamix. (Plex, Plex updater, and vfs_recycle). They show up fine in the Dynamix GUI. The only 'issues' are that they aren't as logically organized in the GUI and of course Dynamix's built-in plugin updating feature doesn't work.
January 20, 201412 yr I think SF also puts plugins in /boot/plugins alongsidse /boot/config/plugins, I would delete those as well.
January 20, 201412 yr How to completely uninstall SimpleFeatures: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=28927.msg279478#msg279478
January 22, 201412 yr Author OK, just and update Removed all of the simple features related stuff from the flash and rebooted, back to standard gui. Added the dynamix gui and updater into the right places and rebooted - all good, new Gui in place, added in some of the related plugins with no problem (this works great, hope they can all be this easy one day). My existing plugins all got recognised and work fine and picked up the config so in the end quite a stress free process. All runing and looking pretty good Thanks for the input everyone
