unRAID Server release 4.5-beta3 available

Featured Replies

I just installed this beta and powered on the server. I see a bunch of "FATAL" errors looks like to do with NFS

I've attached my syslog

EDIT: I just rebooted and re-attached the syslog, I don't see the FATAL error in there (on either copy) but it was on the screen, after the login prompt showed up.

I'm gonna test the NFS connection to see if it is still working properly.

What are you using for the NFS export string for your shares being exported by NFS?

Thought I would post back that I have NOT seen a recurrence of this problem wtih 4.5b3 (at least not yet, after almost 8 days of uptime).  4.5b3 appears rock solid!

After setting queue_depth to 1, I am getting the best write performance ever on my unRAID server.  I have a program that I use to write directly to my cache disk that reports its write speed.  With 4.3.3 I was getting 27 - 32 MB/sec tops, with 4.5b3 I am getting up to 42 MB/sec.  Normal copies are not that dramatically faster, but something has changed that makes certain apps able to write dramatically faster.  As already reported, writes to the array are a bit snappier also.

Small nit, I notice that every time disks spin down that there is a log entry.  This is unnecessary IMO.  It just consumes memory, whch might get significant with long uptimes and short spin down timers.

While we're talking about logging, I would like to see parity errors as well as read and write error locations logged.  It used to do this but I think it may have been (at least partically) taken out due to the log explotion issue.  I much prefer to see these log entries, as they are very helpful in diagnosing drive issues.  (This issue may have already been fixed, but I haven't had a parity error in a while).

I'd really love to see kernel drivers in support of VPN added so that we can run Hamachi etc...

You can download the slackware package from an Italian site here:

I haven't tried this - but if you get it to install but it complains of missing libraries, let me know  :)

Having a secure way to access my files remotely would add a tremendous amount of value to my server.

I humbly suggest that a NAS is not the device to terminate a VPN on. That is the job of your router or other dedicated device.

I am kind of with NAS on this one.

And really networking is my thing (so you decide if you wanna take my advice seriously or not).

Am just getting back into testing and building an UnRAID box. I've noticed that Memtest86+ included with 4.5-beta3 is currently behind by two versions (2.01). The current version (2.11) can be downloaded here:

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Download the  "Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary"  (either .zip or .gz)  and extract / rename / overwrite the file 'memtest' that is included with UnRAID. Here are the changes (copied from the site):

Enhancements in v2.11 :

        * New Features

              o Added support for Intel Core i5 (Lynnfield) CPU

              o Added support for Intel P55 Southbridge

              o Added support for Intel PM45/GM45/GM47 Mobile chipset

              o Added support for Intel GL40/GS45 Mobile chipset

        * Bug Fixes

              o Corrected DDR2/DDR3 detection on Intel x35/x45

              o Corrected detection on some Core i7 CPU

              o Fixed a bug with some AMI BIOS (freeze at startup)

              o Various bug fixes

Enhancements in v2.10 :

    * Added support for Intel Core i7 (Nehalem) CPU

    * Added support for Intel Atom Processors

    * Added support for Intel G41/G43/G45 Chipsets

    * Added support for Intel P43/P45 Chipsets

    * Added support for Intel US15W (Poulsbo) Chipset

    * Added support for Intel EP80579 (Tolapai) SoC CPU

    * Added support for ICH10 Southbridge (SPD/DMI)

    * Added detection for Intel 5000X

    * Now fully aware of CPU w/ L3 cache (Core i7 & K10)

    * Added workaround for DDR3 DMI detection

    * Fixed Intel 5000Z chipset detection

    * Fixed Memory Frequency on AMD K10

    * Fixed cache detection on C7/Isaiah CPU

    * Fix Memtest86+ not recognized as Linux Kernel
