[SOLVED] 2 disks have errors, one will fail soon, what to do now?

Featured Replies

...  with limited guarantee, good to know.

It's not really a "limited guarantee" ==> it's simply guaranteed until the end of the warranty of the drive you're replacing.    So you still get the total warranty time that you were entitled to when you bought the disk.    Some folks seem to think you can RMA a drive 2 months before the end of the warranty and get a nice new drive with a new warranty ... but it doesn't work that way  8)

The RMA replacement for disk 2 is on its way :)

I am now comparing the smart report for the other troublesome one, disk6, from about 3 weeks ago to now.

The reallocated event count has not increased, but the raw_read_error_rate has, from 2 to 559. The disk is empty, i only copied some testdata to and from it.

Is this a viable case for RMA as well? The disk has not 'FAILED' (yet).

Is this a viable case for RMA as well?

Sure ... it's clearly having issues, so I'd go ahead and get it replaced.

Ok, i'll just send it back and see if they agree :)

In the meantime i've replaced disk 6 with the reconditioned (and preclearded and smart tested) drive, data has been rebuild and now i am doing a last non correctional parity check.
