November 21, 201411 yr So Frys have HGST Deskstar 3.5" 4TB CoolSpin for $129.00, so far no limit on how many you can purchase. I got two this morning. I have 3 of them from a previous sale and they all seem pretty solid drive. This ad ran in the SF Bay Area, not sure if it is country wide. http://www.frys.com/product/6943757?site=sa:adpages page:P38_FRI date:112114
November 22, 201411 yr Available in Houston, too. Excellent drive, and good price too, $10 lower then the minimum when I was buying them during this year. Still, I would wait. Big guys (6 and 8 TBs) just started pushing price for 4 TBs down, I would expect considerable drop in next few month.
November 22, 201411 yr Damn it. Why do are these Fry's deals ALWAYS in store only? There are no Fry's anywhere near me.
November 28, 201411 yr No Frys in the state of Florida (where I live). Closest is Georgia, near Atlanta. Best price I have seen on this drive... wish I could easily get it for this price. Is Frys like Costco & Sam's Club (where you pay a membership fee to be able to shop there)?
November 28, 201411 yr Author Nope, Frys is the same as Best Buy but instead has a much larger selection of goods.
December 5, 201411 yr Author This deal is running again in Frys, most likely will be until next Thursday on sale.
December 11, 201411 yr Sold out at the 2 Frys in San Diego county. Went in today, though, and got a raincheck. Hopefully they'll honor the price on more than one. Off topic, but this probably wouldn't be ideal for a parity drive though, right? Currently my array is all Greens and Reds (the parity being a red), 2 TB or less. I'd like to grab at least 2 4 TB, one being the parity. Suggestions?
December 11, 201411 yr Author I believe the coolspin is the WD Hitachi equivalent of the green drives. I have a lot of these drives and they run about 1 degree hotter than green drives.
