c3 Posted December 30, 2014 Share Posted December 30, 2014 Talk about out of context... First, they are talking about pure SSD systems, which would require a "not cheap" RAID hardware. They don't need redundancy, or even better than single drive performance, so the fast, expensive RAID controller is overkill. Second, they increased the RAM from 48Gb to 128GB, allocating 100GB to file cache. So, the speed is increased by RAM cache, reducing the need for faster storage. The RAM is probably less expensive than the RAID controller, so a wise move. Yeah, "Disk performance is improved when you get rid of hardware raid, and replace it with 5x RAM cache" Link to comment
