Talk about out of context...

 

First, they are talking about pure SSD systems, which would require a "not cheap" RAID hardware. They don't need redundancy, or even better than single drive performance, so the fast, expensive RAID controller is overkill.

 

Second, they increased the RAM from 48Gb to 128GB, allocating 100GB to file cache. So, the speed is increased by RAM cache, reducing the need for faster storage. The RAM is probably less expensive than the RAID controller, so a wise move.
