kciaccio
I am building a new UNRAID server with 90% usage as a stand alone PLEX server. I want to off load the burden of my main PC to my New UNRAID server. I currently use a overclocked I7 2600K with 16 gigs of ram to run my PLEX server with a very basic and old UNRAID 22TB server as the media file server. http://s16.postimg.org/t1mlhyu2t/computer2.jpg Sometimes I see 7 streams at once from my PLEX server and this is from a very old UNRAID Box serving my PLEX server.. version 4.5.4 with 2 SATA 1 cards as part of the hardware...Hard to believe it is even pulling it off. But I am sure some users have stuttering issues during play. lol I am upgrading my network to XFINITY from my UVERSE system. Currently I have 50MB down and 6MB to 100MB Down and 20MB up thru XFINITY. I have purchased a new high performance cable modem and HP managed switch to make use of Bonding, teaming, link aggregation what ever term you choose to like. The new UNRAID server will have a Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157541&cm_re=ASRock_X99_Extreme6_LGA_2011-v3_Intel_X99_SATA-_-13-157-541-_-Product the new as the motherboard. 16 Gigs of ddr4 ram and several http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145973. I am attaching a screen shot of what my main computer goes through on a regular basis supporting my PLEX server and want to know if this new set up using a central UNRAID system will handle this type of load and more. Thanks for your input. Quote Link to comment
BRiT
I would not overclock my fileserver. I prefer data integrity over a small savings of cash on cheating out on a processor upgrade. Most of the activity that plex will be doing is transcoding;to ease that burden you could simply get lower encodings of the files you're serving up (720p instead of 1080p). Quote Link to comment
kciaccio
That is correct. That is the plan....Anybody push the limits on this yet using a 6 core processor 16 gigs of RAM and 7200rpm nas Drives and NIC teaming? I am keeping my old Unraid server as a back up in case of a melt down so sky is the limit. Quote Link to comment
kciaccio
Any advice? Quote Link to comment
Chris Pollard
Impressive. If I could get more upstream bandwidth I would have similar problems to you I think. I wish they would allow limiting of remote streams, If I could cap people at 720p all my problems would go away. As for your CPU choice.... Borderline running out of bandwdith before CPU... good rules of thumb here :- https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201774043-What-kind-of-CPU-do-I-need-for-my-Server-computer- 2000 passmark for each 1080p 10Mbps stream they reckon.... kciaccio
Is there a tutorial on here on how to set up the teaming/bonding on UNRAID? Quote Link to comment
gundamguy
Is there a tutorial on here on how to set up the teaming/bonding on UNRAID? Not to my knowlage, but I do know that someone posted about this in the General Support forum a few weeks back. Not sure if this will help you, or point you in the right direction or not. Link Edit: Or not, because I see you were the last poster in that thread. =( Quote Link to comment
