csimmons222
I am trying to run a preclear on a new 4 TB drive and it keeps hanging on Step 2. I have tried the preclear twice and it has hung both times. The first time after 62% completion and the second at 33% completion. I have linked to my system log file from the first time it hung up. I have also attached the smart reports that I just ran on the drive. Any ideas? https://www.dropbox.com/s/435lfqcz379sd1v/syslog.zip?dl=0 smart-long-0202.txt smart-short-0202.txt Link to comment

csimmons222
Try to see if it's not a ram memory issue. i had the same problem ! Are you referring to the amount of RAM in the machine or possibly a faulty stick? The computer has 8 GB of RAM in it. How would I know if it was a RAM is in fact the problem? Link to comment
cayman22
Yes a memory module could be bad. you can test with memtest, you'll find it here www.memtest86.com. Link to comment

csimmons222
I am still having problems with preclearing this 4 tb drive. I pulled the drive and ran seagate's seatools against it and it passed the smart test, short test and long test. I have tried preclearing the drive in my server using different hard drive locations (I have a Norco 4224 case) to eliminate a bad cable or PCI-E card with no luck. I was able to preclear a 2 TB drive just fine in the server. I am guessing that there is something wrong with the drive. Link to comment
Frank1940
Make sure you are using the latest version of the preclear script. There were some issues that were resolved with large drives (>2.2TB) and version 6 as I seem to recall. Link to comment

Frank1940
At this point, I would suggest a post in this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4068.0 And reference this thread. Joe L. seems to follow the posts there and more likely to answer you--- either there or here. Link to comment
