Link to wiki from Forum

Featured Replies

I think that there should be a link directly from the Forum to the unRAID wiki pages.

I think that if it was present then users with questions might be more likely to use the wiki, and also existing experienced users are more likely to update wiki articles to keep them current.

It is possible that LimeTech are already planning something along these lines as part of the documentation update for v6.  If so then I still think that providing the direct link and perhaps Limetech providing the top-level navigation pages to provide some initial structure within the wiki is a good idea.  We really want to get started on getting documentation on many of the new v6 features such as dockers and virtualisation into a coherent state that new users can sensibly peruse rather than having to find the pertinent information buried within a variety of forum posts.  It seems pointless to wait until Limetech personnel can write ALL the documentation when with some guidance it is highly likely that the user community can provide a significant amount.

There is already a link to the wiki but you have to go to the "top level". If you click on the Home button, you get to the top level and the link is under the first heading, News.

Never noticed that!

However as it is part of a scrolling list it is not always visible and thus not ideal.

It would be more intuitive if there were a visible link in the header all the time.

When I used to visit the ReadyNAS forums, the icon at the upper right would go to the Wiki.

Currently the icon goes to the main website (which makes sense).

From there you can click on wiki in the upper right.

Does anyone know if SMF can have another icon or hyperlink to point to the Wiki directly from the forum?

I know there are lots of ways of doing it indirectly - but I would like to see an in-your-face direct link.

The tricky part is this seems like it would require some manually editing of the code for SMF.  There is no option in the  SMF settings that I can find to add top level links to thinks like our wiki.  I'm honestly not even sure how the LT logo is showing up in the top right (no setting for it anywhere).  Maybe Tom hacked SMF to put it there at one point or maybe it's buried in the CSS settings.

I agree that it would be nice if we could keep a link to the wiki available regardless, but just don't have the time right now to investigate this further.

Then a sticky thread in every forum section?
