Hi Guys,

I apologise in advance if this has been covered a billion times. I have tried various methods to get this sorted.... all to no avail.

Firstly, decided to set up a media platform. I bought the following...

1. Asus H97I-Plus MB

2. I3 4130T CPU

3. Kingston 8GB ram DDR3 1600Mhz

4. Corsair 430 PSU

5. 4 x WD Red's 4TB

I put the system together, turned on the power and it posted straight away.

I went to the ASus website and upgraded my firmware to the latest (2604).

I followed all the instructions on the unRaid website with regards to the USB device (I bought a Sandisk Cruser USB3.0 32Gig).

Plug it in and everything is detected in the bios... all the WD drives and the flash.

I made the USB the ONLY boot option. However I noticed it is saying UEFI Sandisk (I can't seem to change to STD boot), I saved and restarted, but it always boots straight back into the bios.

I have googled various options, but I'm stuck.

If anyone has any idea's, I would really, really appreciate a heads up. Many thanks!!!

Cheers,

Morten

Did you try BIOS in legacy mode? Looking at PDF there is a USB Support option that defaults to Partial Initialization which will only detects ports with keyboard or mouse. Needs to be set to Full Initialization me thinks. May be more but thats what I see with quick glance.

Nice board BTW.

alot of ppls have had trouble with usb3 devices - did you try a usb2 stick?

Ok....

So, an update. No idea why it wouldn't work earlier. I retried to set up the flash drive. Still no joy.

Then I tried again, using my macbook pro, and it worked. No idea why the difference.

So now I get to tower login prompt. Problem I have now is... I'm trying to access the setup functions via another computer, but I keep getting Err_connection_refused.

This is the first time I've ever dabbled with stuff like this, so it's a little foreign. I'll keep trying.

Cheers,

Morten

So I've been searching on the net now all night. No joy.

Anyone have any idea's?

At the moment, I'm just using a basic Airport Express as my wireless router. Does anyone know if these have issues with unRaid?

I can't access the web interface at all. I have tried both the //tower command and also the specific IP address. No good.

I can ping the NAS. I can get the IP address. I just can't get the web interface to work.

Any help on this would be great appreciated.

Many thanks,

Morten

How did you get the IP address?

  • Author

Hi Trurl,

I logged into root, and typed in IFCONFIG. Gave me the following:

Inet : 172.16.219.147

Netmask : 255.255.0.0

Broadcast : 176.16.255.255

My computer (PC) comes up with the  following WIRELESS info:

IPv4 : 172.16.216.86

Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0

Default Gateway : 172.16.0.1

Everything from the flash drive loads perfectly now. ie: I get the prompt, and all the drives are seen. Just struggling to get into the web interface so I can finish the setup. :(

Any ideas????

Cheers,

Morten

Is your server set to use DHCP?

The server and your PC are on different subnets, which likely explains why they aren't communicating.

The server shows 172.16.219.xxx

... while the PC shows 172.16.216.xxx

In this case it is perfectly viable, because the network mask is 255.255.0.0 (in network terms a class B or /16 address).

Having said that, I would recommend a smaller network size (/24) to prevent possible broadcast storms.

Hmmm.... I wish I were tech savy. I honestly have no idea how to fix either of these 2 issues.

I missed that you had the wider subnet mask -- so it's not really an issue.

In most private setups the subnet is defined by the 3rd grouping ... so 219 and 216 would be different.  But in your case, both the 3rd and 4th groups are included in your subnet, so it should be okay.

Just in case, however, you could try setting a static IP in your UnRAID server to more closely match the PC.

I'd try 172.16.216.99

Before you change anything, what happens if you type the following address into your browser?

http://172.16.219.147/

I get an Err_connection_refused message

Have you tried this with a wired connection?  (You indicated your PC is wireless)

Hi Gary,

I haven't. Should I connect my unraid server into my pc?

Thanks for your time. Much appreciated.

Cheers,

Morten
