Works and even supports port multipliers.

I've tested a 5 port multiplier with this card and it does work.

It was a bit flaky. I found myself having to reboot a few times because one or two drives did not initialize correctly.

It could be my older drives that are the issue.

It could be the port multiplier driver is not ready for prime time action.

You generally get around 60MB/s per drive no matter what drive (at lease from my hardware).

However, I did get 60MB/s with two drives at exactly the same time.

5 drive parity generate produced around 18-27Mb/s. I could not get it higher.

I am using older smaller drives

2 x 250;

2 x 320

1 x 300

So it could be partially the issue with the drives.

I did test with a different port multiplier using the SIL5744 chipset.

This is the one that does RAID0,RAID1,SAFE33,SAFE50,BIG,SPAN & JBOD.

This worked flawlessly.

So if push comes to shove and you run out of slots.

Using one of the PCI mounted cards from addonics you can double your drive capacity on some of the ports.

The card, and the bus will handle the additional drives without issue.
