mkeil77
Hi, I'm running on unRaid 6.1.0 and , actually from the beginning, I'm facing problems with my Linux Mint VM's. every time i need to restart them i'm ending up in a Kernel Panic error. only after a couple of tries the VM's are coming up. the error message is: Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x0000000b has anyone seen this before? jonp
First, I recommend updating to the latest release (6.1.2). Next, is this kernel panic from within the guests system log? Link to comment
mkeil77
yes its from the guest system during the initial boot. Link to comment
jonp
We will need to say what others say who have tested Linux Mint. I haven't personally tested with that distro just yet. Link to comment
CHBMB
We will need to say what others say who have tested Linux Mint. I haven't personally tested with that distro just yet. I was going to install Mint this weekend, so this seems a perfect excuse to get to it... Link to comment

mkeil77
i just compared your config with mine and except minor differences like VCPU and assigned memory it looks the same. Yesterday i upgraded to unRaid 6.1.2 and as expected both of my Linux Mint VMs did not started. one i had to start twice and it booted without any kernel panic, the other one about 6 times. Yesterday i upgraded to unRaid 6.1.2 and as expected both of my Linux Mint VMs did not started. one i had to start twice and it booted without any kernel panic, the other one about 6 times. So, they're set to boot with Unraid? I'll try restarting my Unraid box see if I can reproduce.. Link to comment
CHBMB
Rebooted my array and Linux Mint VM started fine.. For the record, my RAW disk image is stored on a SSD that is mounted with unassigned devices at startup not as part of the array. Don't know if that makes a difference. Link to comment
mkeil77
i have mine also on an SSD but the same is the cache drive. i did a couple of test and i noticed it that i run in the same problem if i just shutdown the VM and restart it. really strange. especially if i try it couple of times it eventually starts up. jonp
Maybe a difference in the install media you guys are using? Maybe the host processor pass through isn't working right for mkeil. Edit your VM and turn on advance view. Change the CPU from pass through to Emulated. See if that has an impact. Link to comment
mkeil77
i figured out one more thing. i disabled autostart of both of my VM's and started them manually. What i noticed now is that the first one, independent which VM i start first, is starting without any problem. The second one is running into the kernel panic error. if i now pause the first one, the second one starts without any error. i can then also resume the first one. Link to comment
saarg
I'm not sure if this is the problem, but are both of your VM's OVMF? This might cause the problems you are seeing, but maybe Jon knows this. As it is now you can only have one OVMF VM running. To go around this, you can copy the efi loader to your cache drive and make one for each VM and then edit the xml accordingly. It might also be a good idea to post the xml's of your VM's. saarg
You have chosen to set the same static CPU core for both VMs. Try assigning different cores for the VMs. Link to comment
