Bad Drive???

Featured Replies

The results of those 2 cmds are in the screen shot. I tried downloading a random firefox zip file from the internet and had no issues with it. I also tried running the diagnostics from several different browsers and got the same error on all of them (chrome, ff, palemoon). Anything else I can try? Other ideas? Thanks.

These are NOT the standard versions installed with unRAID.

Check the folder /extra on your flash drive or perhaps some non-compatible plugins are installed, see folder /config/plugins on your flash drive.

And if you are using unMenu, ensure you have the latest version running.

This is a very basic unraid set up. The only things showing on the plugins tab are "dynamix webgui" and unraid itself. There is no /extra folder on my flash and in /config/plugins I just have "dockerMan", "dynamix", "dynamix.kvm.manager" and "images". I have no dockers running or anything at all like that. Thanks.

Do you have a vanilla 'go' file?  The standard default one just starts emhttp and does nothing else.

Yes, the only thing in my go file is this:

#!/bin/bash

# Start the Management Utility

/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

I am at a bit of a loss then to guess at what is loading the versions of zip and dmidecode that your screenshot shows as they are not the ones that are issued with the current unRAID.

Would upgrading to 6.1.3 make this a "clean" install? Is there something else I can do to see what is going on or to make sure the default versions of this stuff gets loaded? Thanks.

Boot in SAFE mode.

  • Author

Well well well. Booted into SAFE mode and the diagnostics ran just fine (attached). I might look at doing a clean install to upgrade to 6.1.3 to clean out what plugin and/or other issue was causing it to not work before. Thank you trurl for the suggestion, I'm glad it worked.

Now on to the reason I started the thread.....is there anything in the diagnostics that would point to a drive being bad or anything else that would be causing the hard lock ups I've been seeing? I'm going to be copying over some data to the array now, so I'll post back if I have another lock up or not. Thanks.

So I've updated to 6.1.4 without any issue. Using this version and booting normally, I'm still getting the error when trying to download the diagnostics file. Is there anything else I can do to get back to a "clean" install to get rid of whatever is stopping me from getting this file? Also, is there anything in the latest diagnostics file I did post that would point to a bad drive or something else that would have been causing the lock ups I was seeing? Thanks.

Review this portion of the upgrade wiki: Files on flash drive.

I went through the section you linked to trurl, and deleted all of the files that it said to. I've also upgraded (via the plugins page) to 6.1.4. I'm still getting the same error when trying to run the diagnostics tool. Is there anyway to do a completely clean install or something else I can check to see what is going on with the system? It seems like there is something else running on the box that I don't know about or don't expect and it's causing the issues, since everything works fine in safe mode. Thanks.

The upgrade wiki I linked in my previous post has a section about clean install. Just scroll to the top of the wiki page where you found the "flash files" list.

So I've gone through the steps and done the clean install process. Everything went well and the array is back up and running. The good news is the diagnostics tool runs just fine without safe mode now. The bad news is I tried to run the backup software again and got another hard lock up. I did a hard restart and have a parity check running now, just to make sure all is well. I'm fine with losing the backup, or finding another option, but something tells me that isn't the root cause of the lock ups. I've attached the diagnostics files I just got. I looked around a little and saw all "PASSED" on the SMART reports, but I did notice that the report for the flash didn't want to open. Is this normal? Does anything else look odd in the reports? Thanks in advance.
