ahhchuu
Hello I have created a Windows 10 VM. I assigned it 8 cores, 120GB of space, 12.8GB RAM. Settings are displayed here: When I attempt to start the VM, I get an execution error. I am using GPU passthrough. Execution Error: internal error: early end of file from monitor: possible problem: 2016-01-08T00:22:42.519684Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=01:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: vfio: failed to set iommu for container: Operation not permitted 2016-01-08T00:22:42.519709Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=01:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: vfio: failed to setup container for group 14 2016-01-08T00:22:42.519729Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=01:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: vfio: failed to get group 14 2016-01-08T00:22:42.519741Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=01:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: Device initialization failed 2016-01-08T00:22:42.519753Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=01:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: Device 'vfio-pci' could not be initialized I am unsure of how to go about troubleshooting this let alone fix it. dlandon
Try assigning only one cpu until the installation is done. Link to comment
ahhchuu
I tried with a single CPU and same results. I was under the impression that host=01:00.0 referred to my PCI GPU. Link to comment
dlandon
I tried with a single CPU and same results. I was under the impression that host=01:00.0 referred to my PCI GPU. It looks like it does. Try with vnc and not the gpu. That will tell you for sure if it is the gpu. Load the gpu drivers when using vnc. Then restart with the gpu passed through. You may have an issue with the pci slots and have to set pcie acs override. Link to comment
ahhchuu
Looks like I have bigger problems now. I had to reboot the unraid server to let the PCIe ACS override take effect but now the unraid server doesn't even boot up. Getting "No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!" error. I will see if I can solve this than try your solution again. Thanks! Link to comment
Squid
Look for a BIOS upgrade. I had the same issue where a GPU was the only item listed in the group, and continually had that error. After BIOS upgrade errors all went away Link to comment
ahhchuu
It looks like the BIOS upgrade was the key. I upgraded it (turns out it was from mid 2012) and I didn't have to set up the PCIe ACS override. Install is progressing without any hiccoughs so far. I will verify when install is completely finished but everything looks good. Thanks dlandon and Squid! You guys were a big help! [EDIT] Everything is running nicely after install! Link to comment
harryorford
I'm having the same issue trying to pass through a GPU to the vm, my bios is up to date and I have installed all of the necessary virtuo drivers. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this issue? Link to comment
