March 9, 201610 yr I've got a mix of Seagate, WD, HGST (and a few Hitachi from before the rebrand). Other than a flat DOA, the Seagates have given me less trouble than the Hitachi and WD drives I've had.
March 14, 201610 yr But but what about the shingles club? I have not heard horror stories from that thread yet. PS just chucked a 2tb seagate from 2012...
March 14, 201610 yr Their infamous 3TB drives really drove me crazy. One actually failed in such a way that it would overload the rails on power-up causing my server to power-cycle continuously. I don't know if it was related, but my motherboard never posted properly after that (intermittent power-up) and had to be replaced; expensive avoton board too! Haven't had any issues so far (knock on wood) with two 4TB Seagates and a 5TB SMR in the last year.
March 14, 201610 yr I've been using the ST4000DM000 seagate desktop drive as my parity drive and it's been great. I plan on changing it soon though. Will be buying 2x 6TB WD Red's to use as my parity drives. I will add the ST4000DM000 back in to the array as a data drive.
March 14, 201610 yr No problems at all with 8 seagate 4TB nas drives. Been running 24x7 for 2years now. Just preclearing a couple of 8TB units to swap in.
March 21, 201610 yr I've had 10 of these in my server, 3 of them developed a smart error, but then only 2 year warranty so they are wasted. Will aim for 3-5 year warranty on my next drives...
March 21, 201610 yr Author i have 6 4TB throughout the past 2 years and stll no issues. i still have 1 year of warrant on my oldest drives
