Griff1324
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. If it is will an moderator please move this post. I had a 2TB disc that was part of my array that started throwing up errors. These errors included relocated sectors, current pending sectors and offline uncorrectable errors. I replaced the 2TB drive with a new one. For the heck of it, I ran a preclear on the 2TB drive after removing it from the array and it seemed to be successful. Confused on why it passed, I ran PreClear again and the drive passed the second time as well. Please see the results below. I am not sure what is going on but do you think it is safe to add the drive back into the array? ############################################################################################################################ # # # unRAID Server Preclear of disk Z240PZCJ # # Cycle 1 of 1, partition start on sector 64. # # # # # # Step 1 of 5 - Pre-read verification: [2:40:06 @ 146 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 2 of 5 - Zeroing the disk: [4:12:52 @ 131 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 3 of 5 - Writing unRAID's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 4 of 5 - Verifying unRAID's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 5 of 5 - Post-Read verification: [4:21:19 @ 127 MB/s] SUCCESS # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ############################################################################################################################ # Cycle elapsed time: 11:14:25 | Total elapsed time: 11:14:26 # ############################################################################################################################ ############################################################################################################################ # # # S.M.A.R.T. ashman70
Go the main page of unRAID, click on the left where your disks are listed Disk 1, Disk 2, etc. Scroll down to Self Test and below where it says Attributes, you''ll see the results, you can screen shot that and paste it here. Griff1324
I decided to run the preclear again but here is the SMART report. Based on the errors reported so far, I am guessing that this drive is on its way to failing. I assume that I can just cancel the preclear, yank the drive and throw it away??? Quote Link to comment
ashman70
The drive is almost four years old, in my experience that's the average lifespan of a drive, with 56 reallocated sectors it may stop there, for awhile or forever, who knows, but I wouldn't use it for anything important, if you still want to keep using it. If that number steadily increases, toss the drive. Quote Link to comment
bonienl
I see you are still running unRAID version 6.1.7. It is recommended to upgrade to a newer version. Latest stable version available is 6.3.5. Quote Link to comment
