October 11, 20178 yr Just upgraded from 4.7 to 6.3 as per the guide. I did a clean install on a new usb stick. I copied the .key, network.cfg, ident.cfg, share.cfg files and the shared folder to the config file folder as instructed. I then put the usb back in and booted the system. it boots up and shows Tower login prompt, however there is no gui when I try to connect from the browser. Says unraidtower’s server DNS address could not be found. NOW WHAT??? no clue where to go from here. Kelly in San Antonio
October 11, 20178 yr Hi - Try the IP address, i.e. something like http://192.168.1.10 . Or if the copy of those files was unsuccessful the name of the server could have been reset back to "tower", the default.
October 11, 20178 yr Author Tried that, No Good. Also made a ver 6 usb and didnt copy any flies from my 4.7 version. Still wont connect to the browser. I typed http://tower and message says Cant connect, tower refused, WTF am i doing wrong??? terminal mode shows (Tower login), when I type root it logs in and is waiting for a command so looks like its booted up.
October 11, 20178 yr at the command prompt, type in diagnostics and then upload the resulting file that'll be saved on the flash drive.
October 12, 20178 yr Author I ran diagnostics, it said it saved a file but dont see it. I see changes.txt. Is that the file you mean?
October 12, 20178 yr Author It says it saved it in /boot/logs/tower-diagnostics-20171101-1841.zip There are no files like that on my flash drive. Now what?
October 12, 20178 yr Strange. Alternative is from the command prompt cp /var/log/syslog /boot/syslog.txt In the root directory of the flash there will now be a syslog.txt file. Upload that.
October 12, 20178 yr Community Expert 59 minutes ago, Squid said: Strange. Alternative is from the command prompt I am wondering if the command line diagnostics script won't write the file if the logs directory doesn't exist. The reason for this conjecture is that there is another user that is experiencing the same thing. https://forums.lime-technology.com/topic/60621-array-stops-immediately/?tab=comments#comment-595988 EDIT: My bad! I didn't realize that the poster was the same individual! Edited October 12, 20178 yr by Frank1940
October 12, 20178 yr Author I ran the cp /var command line then looked at the flash and still no syslog.txt. WTF is going on here. I see a bunch of error 32's when its booting up but it goes by so fast I cant read all of them. do I need to ug to ver 5 first then ver 6? Edited October 12, 20178 yr by KellyVB
October 12, 20178 yr Does this command return anything? cat /var/log/syslog | grep -i bread If it does, then try a different USB port (preferably USB2) as the system is losing track of the flash drive.
October 12, 20178 yr Community Expert Perhaps you should show the output of a ‘df’ command so we can see if the flash drive is being correctly mounted at /boot. If it is not mounting correctly then the issue is likely to be with the preparation of the USB stick (it must be formatted as FAT32 and labelled ‘UNRAID’). if it is then using ‘ls -l /boot’ can be used to see if it correctly shows the files you can see from a Windows system.
October 12, 20178 yr Author Doesn't return anything. Shouldn't there be a /boot directory ? one boot up says missing or /boot/config/ident.cfg. also if i try the cat /var/log/syslog /boot/syslog.txt it comes back with cat: boot/syslog.txt: no such file or direcrory. I don't thing its looking at my flash drive correctly. Did see an error that said unable to emulate USB.
October 12, 20178 yr Author how do i show the output, the network is not working? But I dont think its mounting correctly like you said. I followed the guide to make the stick. 1-downloaded the file from the website. 2-UN-zipped it to the newly formatted usb. 3-made it bootable. 4 copied the files from ver 4.7 to the config folder it said to keep. 5-booted it up. Does that sound rite or did i miss a step?
October 12, 20178 yr Community Expert Did you check that it is FAT32 and is labelled ‘UNRAID’ ? If either of these is wrong the USB stick will not be mounted correctly. do you have a keyboard/monitor plugged into the unRAID server? I think you will need it while debugging this problem.
October 12, 20178 yr Author Yes, the USB is fat 32 and is named UNRAID and yes, i have a keyboard and monitor connected to the unraid box. Thats what I have been watching as it boots up. its now seeing the USB stick correctly for some reason, reason I say that is because I copied my network.cfg, ident.cfg, share.cfg and the shares folder.to the config folder. the name of my server in 4.s was UnRaid Tower. according to the guide if I have my ident.cfg file it should say UnRaidTower at the logon prompt but is says Tower:
October 13, 20178 yr Is GUI just not showing?, Is new system or just an upgrade? Routers and IP conflict with two devices with same IP will cause similar issue. Edited November 4, 20178 yr by CIA
October 13, 20178 yr Author Upgrading from 4.7 that has been running for years. No gui, no network with the new ver 6 install.
October 14, 20178 yr Author Still am unable to get ver 6 going. even tried a clean install with no luck. Like it's not liking the flash drive yet I used one that had an older version on it that worked fine. There has got to bee an answer to this. Cant make a sys log either, says it made one but like i said, its not on the USB stick. when you download the version and unzip it to the flash exactly what files should be on it? These are the files that are on mine Config (DIR) Syslinux (DIR) bzmake bzroot bzroot-gui changes.txt ilcense.txt make bootable.bat make make bootable.mac memtest
October 14, 20178 yr Community Expert It still looks to me like the USB stick is not being mounted for some reason, so although Linux starts up the unRAID specific options (like configuration details) and the GUI are not starting. If you log in at the console and the ‘df’ command does not show the USB stick mounted at /boot then there is obviously something gone wrong with the creation of the USB stick (although at this point I do not know what). If the USB stick does not mount that would explain all the other symptoms, and until the reason for that can be identified you are not going to get any further. Are you by any chance using a USB3 port for the USB stick? If possible use a USB2 port as they seem to more reliable. Edited October 14, 20178 yr by itimpi
October 14, 20178 yr Author No, I am using a 2 port. What about the make bootable file? I used the .bat one and did it in win 10. there is a make bootable.linux, Is that what I should be using? I did try and run that but windows doesn't know what to do with it. Just ran the df command, says mounted at( with nothing shown) so you are correct I then, its not mounting the flash drive
October 14, 20178 yr Community Expert Running the make_bootable.bat should be fine (but it does need to be run as admin). it might be worth showing us a screenshot of the properties of the USB drive on Windows to check they look OK. you could also try creating the USB stick using the USB Creator tool that is available via the Prerelease 6.4 Support area of the forum.
October 14, 20178 yr Author OK, BUT no clue how to do a screen shot. I hit print screen button but nothing happens
October 14, 20178 yr when people cant figure out how to use print screen, i often refer them to a program called "greenshot". makes it easier to do screenshots of things and you can crop the picture. gl
