Power outage.. no notifications?

Featured Replies

Hi there,i just wondered... today was a big storm in germany... which blow our power away.... good i had a UPS 2 weeks ago installed xD (never had a power outage before in my life)

But i wondered... why i didnt received any notifications? I mean, okay, if whole city has no power, internet is not working either - okay, but as power came back, shoudlnt unraid send me the deleyed notifications via android? (Power went off, UPS handled correct shutdown of unraid, UPS shutdown, power come back, UPS+Unraid turned on again, no notification)

I also dont have any notification in the dashboard.

Did you go to settings, UPS settings and set your UPS up properly? There is a little more to it then just plugging it into your unRAID server, you have to setup notifications and test them.

I did test them ofc, and they worked just as i expected. (warning power off, power back blabla)

Don't know for sure but probably notifications aren't retained after reboot so if the email couldn't go out before then you wouldn't get anything.

All UPS notifications are sent with severity level "alert". Do you have alert notifications set for your browser?

When your router, switch and other network equipment are down, unRAID is not able to send notifications by email or to mobile agents. Notifications are not buffered until power is restored, they are simply lost.

Is there any notification in the notifications history?

Ps. Notification history is only preserved when copied to flash (by default off)

Hi, like i already set, i ofc know if internet in the city is down, he cant sent anything, but i guess, it should sent it asap when it comes back online. (just btw, my internet is also on UPS)

I guess, since the questions come every time, i just upload pictures, pics works better then words... :P

I just did a NmA test and it worked.

Is your network plugged into a UPS?   Here in the US, when the power goes out, the modem, router and switch go down with the power loss.

Where I live, the ISP switch doesn't have UPS. So while I can keep my WiFi etc working, I will not be able to send out any mails until the power is back.

If I switch to LTE networking, then the cellular network will have battery power (at least for a while) and allow networking.

The only way around this problem is to plug everything on the network into the UPS so that it continues to operate until the UPS shuts down. (In our area, the ISP keeps its system running through the use of its own battery-backup/backup-generator scheme.  I would guess that the line amps are powered by a some sort of power feed system built into the cable from the ISP head end.)

I have all of my home network on its own UPS that doesn't shut down. I have been able to access the internet with my laptop for hours during a power outage. And I have always received the email notifications from the UPS alerts at the time that they happen. I was even out of the country one time it happened.

To the OP, if your network was down when unRAID tried to send the notifications, then you wouldn't get them. And if I am understanding bonienl they aren't resent after the server reboots, in fact, aren't even remembered. Which is what I would expect since almost everything about the OS lives in RAM. As bonienl mentioned, you can have notifications saved to flash where you could access them later, but of course, you would have to go looking there yourself since nothing would notify you that new notifications had been stored there.

Yes, like i said, my network is on UPS also, with my unraid together.

But i guess whole ISP was down in my town.

So i guess, i poist a suggestion, IF network not reachable to sent notification, sent it when its back online, and also after reboot.
