Miken Posted January 22, 2018 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Unraid 6.4.0 Ive added 3 disks to my array attached to a "HighPoint Rocket 640L Lite PCI-E RAID controller" when i view any of the disks SMART attributes i see " A mandatory smart command failed exiting. Maticks Posted January 22, 2018 Share Posted January 22, 2018 this might have to do with the ROM being setup in Raid instead of IT mode where the SATA commands are passed directly to Linux. Raid PCI cards take on these functions, you want to flash the ROM where its just a SATA hub. Link to comment

The LSI cards are good but you need to either buy them already IT Mode flashed or have a second machine to do the flashing. they are a decent price. You can't, but normally you would prepare a clean boot environment anyway, so you can just boot to that instead of unraid to flash. Link to comment
