I recently uninstalled atop due to log file overload and am unsure what is causing this.

Did you reboot after uninstalling atop?

No.   I try not to reboot ever... unless absolutely necessary.   I found a java call holding the memory but have yet to find what called the java app to run.

I'm not sure uninstall of atop would result in the erase of already captured accounting information. And if atop was killed with -9 at some point, then the kernel would continue to capture accounting data even after you uninstalled atop.

I rebooted.  Will monitor for out of memory errors.
