December 12, 201015 yr Author Did this several times, still the same. It is not possible to access the shares asks password for \tower\guest ( I do not know the password for it ) my server is running and thats it, for the moment it is not useable for me.
December 13, 201015 yr I am having trouble understanding exactly what you are trying to do and what is the problem. If you could better explain what the problem is we might be able to help more/better instead of blinding giving advice that might make the problem worse.
December 13, 201015 yr Author The user creation is ok, but when I create a share and give the new user acces to this share. I go to my windows computer to my network places hit the shared drive of my unRaid server, I can not acces this share even with the root account it is not possible. I would prefer also NFS share, but first the shares
December 13, 201015 yr Forget NFS for now, let's just get it working with SMB first. Here's what you need to do (I'm not sure what you've done and what you haven't): 1) Create a new user on the 'users' page. Name the user 'guest' and add a password if you wish (type and retype it in the two separate boxes). Then click the 'add' button. 2) On the 'shares' page, type the user name (guest) into the 'valid users' or 'invalid users' boxes for each share as appropriate. If 'guest' is entered into the 'invalid users' box, then that users will have no access to that share. If 'guest' is entered into the 'valid users' box, then that user will have access to the share AFTER entering their password when prompted. If that still doesn't work, let us know. By the way, you may also want to upgrade your version of unRAID to 4.6.
December 13, 201015 yr Author I created a user test ( with password ), created directory test Tried to log in with test ( which is a valid user for this share ) no succes even with root no succes. Changed test to invalid user, and the valid user is now root ( with password ) login no problem he didn't even ask for a password. And I have version 4.6
December 14, 201015 yr As far as I know, the 'root' user only applies to the web interface and the system console. The 'root' user has no affect on shares. Specifically what happens when you try to log into the share as 'test'? It should prompt you for a username and password. If it doesn't, try logging out of Windows (or whatever OS you are using), and then logging back in. This will cause the OS to forget your username and password for the share, and it should prompt for it again.
December 14, 201015 yr Author Okay, it is not like it should be but I can copy now my files to the unRaid server and I can stream it to my mediaplayer. Now I just have to tweak, things so I can login with a other user than root
December 14, 201015 yr Do remember that windows will remember the credentials of your first attempted login to the shares and usually will not ask for additional credentials even if your attempts fail. You typically need to reboot the WinOS system to clear the credentials between attempts.

December 14, 201015 yr Even easier. Open a command prompt and type net use * /delete That should release all your network shares after prompting to be sure you are sure.
