August 23, 200718 yr I noticed that with my upgrade to 4 I seem to have an empty slot in the Devices tab. I heard something mentioned about external drives but I was wondering if I could use this for an internal drive? I have 6 drives now in use, 1 being parity. Can I simply pop in a seventh drive? Although I would have to buy a promise controler in order to use that drive it would be worth it. I have a license for the 6 drive version, which seems odd that it's showing an empty slot. Also I currently have a 500W Antec TruePower PS, any thoughts on how many drives it can handle? Right now it seems fine with 6 drives which generally ony has one drive really running at time.
August 24, 200718 yr In the 4.1 release notes Tom mentions he now supports 16 drives with the Pro version. It is possible he upped the "Plus" version to 7 drives at the same time, but it is not mentioned. The lime-technology web-site still says 14 drives for the "Pro" version, so it is clearly out of date. Unless Tom surfaces and gives the definitive answer, about the only thing you can do is to try adding another drive and see if it can be assigned.
August 24, 200718 yr If you look at the "Devices" Tab then surely the assignment list should tell you how many are available shouldn't it? If it lists 6 + Parity then you have 7 HDDs total. Mark. PS. Sorry if this is a little incoherent (Frday liquid lunch) Mark.
August 24, 200718 yr when you say an empty slot, when do you see this, when the array is stopped or started? I see 6 plus parity when it's STOPPED but only 6 TOTAL when started. This is because, when it's stopped you can, if you want, assign a parity plus 5 or ALL 6 to data with no parity. Of course, I don't know what happens if you assign all seven then attempt to start it.
August 24, 200718 yr I am running 4.1 Plus. I can confirm that there are slots for 6 drives PLUS the parity drive for a total of 7 slots.

Whilst array is running I can LIST but not change the devices by using the "DEVICES" tab on the web interface. Under "Disk Devices" I can see a list that includes the Parity Disk and 15 available slots, some of which are populated and some say "unassigned". I would guess that if the slots are available to assign when STOPPED then they would work. I'm surprised you can't see the parity HDD whilst the array is running though. Mark.
August 26, 200718 yr Author I can see 7 slots in total. One which is my parity drive and 5 of which are being used, and one unassigned. I can see thiis regardless if the array is running or stopped. I just went out to get another drive because I noticed Canada Computers has a 500GB SATA Seagate Barracuda on sale for $119. Unfortunately they had none in stock and are getting one delivered from another location which will take 3-5 days. I can't believe I managed to fill up all my drives so quickly. Anyone have any advice on whether or not a 500W PS is okay for 7 drives?
August 26, 200718 yr sorry, i was crazy. Yes, Parity plus 6 Data, or 7 data, no parity on the plus version, 4.1
August 26, 200718 yr What you're seeing on the Devices page is a bug - unRAID basic does indeed only support 6 drives.
August 30, 200718 yr Author sorry, i was crazy. Yes, Parity plus 6 Data, or 7 data, no parity on the plus version, 4.1 Ahh Crap I just bought a new drive...
August 30, 200718 yr note Tom's post above, 6 drive todal in "plus" version (6 data and no parity or 5 data and parity). The extra drive showing is a page error.
August 30, 200718 yr Author I know. I quoted the wrong post by accident. That sucks cause I bought I drive and promise controller and now can't use it and can't return it. Now my only option is to upgrade to the Pro version which is a lot considering I only have room for one more drive in my case.

Perhaps it is time to invest in a couple of 3-in-2 or 5-in-3 adapters to allow you to squeeze more drives into your case. Bill
August 30, 200718 yr i've got a coolmaster with 5 external bays and 2 or 3 internal, can't reemmber. I have the parity inside, a 3 in 2 up top and 3 single trays below, which fills my license, and my case ... now to just get the drives hehehe

August 31, 200718 yr Here's one example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332011&Tpk=5-in-3 Just search this board, or places like newegg/zipzoomfly for 3-in-2 or 5-in-3. Bill
September 5, 200718 yr Author Does anyone know where to get one of these in Canada? Newegg doesn't ship to Canada.
