USB Header adapters - Keep your USB FOB inside your computer

Featured Replies

On a whim I wondered if they made an adapter that plugs into the USB header on the motherboard that would let me keep my USB stick inside my system.  Maybe I'm the late to the party on this one, but if anyone else is/was as clueless as I was to this until now, here are a few items.

Yup...check the pimp your rig thread.  :-)  I have one as well.  Works nicely.

I use something very simular to the bottom one. I got it for free, but it looks like on Newegg they sell it for 5bucks. Works great and I don't have wires coming in and out of my case. Plus my USB stick is safe inside my case tucked away from an accidental hit if I attempt to move my case.

Thanks for posting this. I've been meaning to get one of these, but keep forgetting. Now I got one on my wish list. Maybe one will eventually have free shipping.

I use the first one, and it works fine.  Worth it for peace of mind, having the flash drive nice and secure inside the case.

I use something like this:

Because its so small, you can barely see it sticking out the back of my server..

Personally, I find that to be a better solution.  To me, one of the advantages of unRAID is that if something gets really FUBAR'd, you can pull the flash drive, hook it up to another computer, and make sure everything is correct (verify ip address, update version of unraid, backup share settings, etc.).  It seems that by installing the flash drive inside the server you are sacrificing that advantage (of course you could always open up the server to get at it, but that makes things more difficult).

That said, I'm currently running my flash drive internally off the C2SEE's native USB ports just for the novelty factor :D
